Spaz!
Nothing like this for 6 years. All the flowers are gone, all the trees are bare.

Yeah, just heard from an old high school friend who's on FB, he is in Golden and got hit with 1.5 inch hail - he's got a photo of one of the nuggets. Amazing.

We had our car totaled by hail when we lived in Denver. I don't miss those storms they could be quite violent. I hope everyone is ok.

It started out light but large. Then it eased up and I thought it was over. 10 min later we got nailed for almost 45 min. In the beginning.

Plants will make it through light stuff but when it makes a carpet 3" thick they are toast. Just had a new roof put on as well. Some areas were getting 2" per hour of rain and just 10 miles away it missed my friend. Up north is getting pounded as well.

I came in here with every intention to make light of the innuendo in the thread title.

Then I saw the pictures.

HOLY SH*T.

I hope that 75-76 T/A in your avatar was in the garage when that happened....

It was along with the 86 2+2 but the 72 GTO was outside. The good thing is the older cars take hail better but it had been taken apart for resto #2. The only thing that could have been hurt is the roof and trunk lid. the hood and front fenders are in the storage shed. A roof is easy to skim.

I now want my other garage more than ever. It has been in the works but not acted on yet. Time to Refi for a lower rate from 6% to 4% and take $15K out to build the garage. I can then store two in one and be able to work on one and store it in the other. :thmbsp: I only owe $50K on a house that even after the collapse of the market is worth $125K. I am 5 years from retirement and can do a VA streamline refi.

That's a lot of hail on the ground!

We had some baseball sized hail a couple years back. Thankfully it didn't do too much damage.

I got caught in a hailstorm on a motorcycle once on I-270 in Maryland.
My helmet, gloves, and leather jacket helped.....but.....my legs were in blue jeans.
Jeeeeez, did that HURT!!!

My sister works in the insurance biz. Hail is her evil enemy. It hits everything, and everyone is covered.

My friend is in the busines of vehicle painting and bodywork. He loves hail. He loves hail almost as much as he loves insurance companies.

I find that hard to believe. (both the size and the fact it didn't cause much damage)

Back in the late seventies/early eighties Ft Collins got hit by really large hail. One of my friends had a hail stone come though his roof and into his living room! It was 4" x 6" and was a conglomerate of many different hail stones! Is google great or what...#3 on the list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_costly_or_deadly_hailstorms Seem like Colorado gets a large share of hail?

We found out afterwards that in upper air disturbances, like this, the hail stones are tumbled together, freezing into large masses until they are no longer able to be held in the turbulance and come crashing down. Preston

Back in the late 1980's, I lived in the Denver area and worked at Martin-Marietta in Deer Creek Canyon. We got hit with a June hailstorm and I remember watching it taking out windshields of cars in the parking lot left and right. Nothing anyone could do, no place to move the cars. We were lucky we were inside a protected structure for ourselves, but our cars were toast. Hail was maybe 1/2 to 1 inch in diameter, which believe me is still pretty darned big.

I was fortunate. I was driving a '69 VW Bug at the time, and for whatever reason - thicker steel, the shape of the body style, or what - my car suffered no damage at all. Other cars looked like someone had walked on them with golf cleats, and smashed windshields and back windows everywhere.

Yeah we had some pea size, or a little larger hail here. Nothing like you got though. What hit us is nothing really unusual for this time of year...

Saw you in Colo Springs on the Weather Channel last night, looked bad!

Friends had softball hail go through their roof into the attic a few years back. Nasty stuff.

A few years ago there was a couple driving across America from Maryland. They mentioned one of the things they really wanted to see were some really big thunderstorms. They were on I-40 in Texas when they got their wish, and softball sized hail destroyed their car. The hood was pounded down onto the engine so tightly it was like it had been formed in a press, and the rest of the car was just shredded.

As for amounts of hail, just this spring there was a slow moving thunderstorm just north of Amarillo that dumped 4 feet of hail on the area. At first I thought it was a missprint and they meant 4 inches, but it was indeed feet.

Check out this vid, it's hard to make out but you can see it pretty clearly at 1:12 in.

Here are some pics I took from just east of Colorado Springs last night. Luckily we did not have the hail that other parts of town had. It hailed off and on for about 90 minutes, but it was just pea-size up to marble-size, and fairly soft. Unfortunately, the Springs area may get hit again today. Looking out the window you can tell there is a lot of moisture and energy in the air, just like yesterday.
