KLH WOOFERS

Can a KLH model five woofer be replaced with a model twelve woofer ? I have read conflicting answers to this question Also can a model six woofer be replaced with other model woofers ?

I'm not clear that information is entirely accurate, even though I wrote it.
The Twelve typically has a dual magnet woofer, and the Five has a single
magnet unit. On those terms, they would not interchange.

The equivalent woofer for the Six is the Model Thirty.

I also read a thirty would work for a six I bought some thirty’s ( at least that’s what the Ebay seller said they were out of ) and they did not fit into the six’s ( too small ).

Early Model Twelves had a dual magnet woofer and early model Fives had a very large bolt together magnet structure. Shortly thereafter the Model Twelve, Five and Twenty-Three all shared the same drivers (same square magnet woofers, tweeters and for 5 & 12 the same mid ranges). Here's a Model Five woofer I've got here from a very early 1967 pair:

In my opinion the answer is yes. I believe the model 12 woofers had more excursion than the model 5 due to the larger cabinet. I would feel comfortable swapping the 12's in place of the 5's, but both, not only one. Hope that helps a bit.
