Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven may be partly stolen...

Why don't we talk about plagiarism and stolen riffs in rap and hip-hop music, settle that first, then come back to this. Or we could file a lawsuit against Picasso on Braque's behalf. It's all pretty silly. Regardless of what came from where Led Zeppelin did more with it and made it last.

Gee Whiz!!! ...Somebody used THAT cord progression again??? ...Somebody get me a lawyer!!!

I vaguely remember Randy California saying yeah, they stole the beginning, but it was no big deal, he was flattered by it.
Next Link Wray's estate will sue every rock guitarist on the planet.

I think John Lennon said, "There's only so many notes..."

Next thing you know, some rock drummer's gonna sue me for copping a basic 4/4 backbeat, or maybe Bill Bruford will get me coz I've used odd meter/time sigs.

The difference is giving credit where credit is due. I wouldn't want my boss to take credit for my cost savings to the company for example. It would mean a smaller bonus for me. They did not give credit to the original artist and still won't.

The original was an instrumental, Led added lyrics, changed a bunch of chords and added most importantly... Zeppelin

I wondered why Randy Wolfe (aka Randy California) never tried to sue Zeppelin before but then I remembered two words:'Peter Grant'
Nobody wanted to mess with Peter Grant. Note Randy only complained about the song after Grant passed away.

Yep, you did NOT want to get on the wrong side of Peter. Best band manager ever.

This one seems like a real strech. Can I hear some similarities? Yes.

I always thought Bad Finger sounded like the Beatles but WTF, Considering the number of artists, producers, songs that have been recorded, any song will remind you of something else.

If Spirit toured with Led Zep, it's possible there was some influence/impact on each others music but to imply that his is a copy write infringement seems like a frivolous lawsuit to me but that's why they have court rooms, judges and juries.

{Insert Band Name Here (but especially Led Zeppelin :))}'s {Insert Song Title Here} may be partially stolen.

What musician doesn't use rifts and changes that they hear other musicians playing ? That's how music evolves...

No one has their own sound, you know how many pieces jazz arrangements were recorded by Rock and Roll musicians in the mid-sixties. To include covering songs without paying royalties.

But this is a bit of a reach.....

This gets even funnier if you care to listen to Davy Graham's version of Cry Me A River from 1959. Did Spirit lift the chords for Tarus from Davy?

What about poor old Jake Holmes and his tune Dazed and Confused?

I once heard a quote from robin trower where he said he would not know what he would have done for a living if jimi Hendrix had not been born. The way I look at it is what would music be like if either Page or Wolfe had not been born? Now who is randy Wolfe again?
