Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven may be partly stolen...

Happens all the time . Just how long can they go back on cases like this ?

A little bit farther every time some scumbag lawyer finds a judge demented enough to reinterpret the law as he sees fit ...

Waiting for the estate of Luigi Cherubini to sue the estate of Ludwig Van Beethoven for lifting some licks for Fidelio ...

:lurk:

^^^ If someone were looking for purity in originality with music they would probably have to go back to the stone ages ^^^

With only 12 notes to work with duplicate notes, chords and arrangements are bound to happen.
I can`t believe it became an issue.

Zep gets credit for breaking out of the 12-bar blues cliche and creating an original sound. Compare the cliche-ridden "I'm Goin' Home" by Ten Years After to "How Many More Times" and "Dazed And Confused". Zep didn't copy The Blues. Zep replaced The Blues with something better, more inspired, more energetic, more trippy, more popular, more kick-ass. If you want The Blues listen to Muddy Waters. :boring:

If you want to rock listen to Zep.

This is a can of worms, in the cupboard beside software patents, and "look and feel" lawsuits.

What if Ford sued Chevy for putting the brake pedal on the left and the gas pedal on the right?

The Battle of Evermore ...

Still one of my favorites ... wonder who they stole THAT from? :p

I always figured Plant stole, I mean was "inspired by", lyric-wise either from a blues guy, or Tolkien. :beerchug:

I like Zep, a lot, but this topic makes me chuckle.

The two songs are "vaguely similar".

Similar in the way that 'Baba O'Riley' recalls 'Sweet Jane', 'Starman' recalls 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow', and 'Don't You Forget About Me' recalls Zep's 'In the Evening'. I could go on.

Were I a juror, I would rule in favor of Page and Plant.

Well if dope dealers with a HUGE pile of money were losing money for a crime would it be ok? To me theft is theft no matter what level. They are very wealth indeed and one has been knighted no less. It's only theft though if proven and awarded in a court of law. Time will tell.

I like the blues, sorta, but it's gotta be roots, none of that slick Chicago **** for me -

.
Kinda funny that many of the lyrics Plant stole for that one were recorded in Chicago.
Or is this supposed to be another example of a Zep original?

Good tune, though. And Harper deserved to be pointed out.
