Leonard Cohen

Bird on a Wire has always been one of my favorites.... Could never get into the Jennifer Warnes album though...

I know most people like Buckley's version of Hallelujah, but I prefer K.D. Lang's.

I'm partial to John Cale's version. I think it was Cale that told a story about asking Cohen for the lyrics, and Cohen faxed over pages and pages with lots of alternate verses.

I actually like his later voice over his early voice. And of course the song writing is top notch.

Try Anjani's Blue Alert.
Cohen Lyrics, Beautiful Voice
I prefer it over Jennifer Warns Famous Blue Raincoat

My favorite version of his Hallelujah is Jeff Buckleys

what the man said, exactly.

Jennifer Warnes, imho, just never seems to get off the ground. Dull delivery.

Oh, and Concrete Blonde's cover of "Everybody Knows" still gives me the chills.

I have been a fan since the 90s when The Future came out.

I will give Ten New Songs another chance, but it so far hasn't done much for me.

My favorites are New Skin for the Old Ceremony and Songs of Leonard Cohen, but all of his records (except Death of a Ladies Man) are interesting.

AAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just reminded me of that version. After hearing Cale sing it on Shrek I went looking for it on the soundtrack but for some reason they don't use his version on the soundtrack.:scratch2:

I tried to download the song on iTunes but they did not have his version and that is where I ran into KD Lang's version on the 49th Parallel.

I have to go out and get Cale's version.

Man, one of my favorites. But I have to be in the right mood. Dude is not uplifting. I tend to drink too much when I listen to Leonard Cohan. Or is it the other way around...

Man, So Long Mary Ann- those are some lyrics.

"I forget to pray for the angels
And then the angels forget to pray for us"

Guys not to bring this old thread back.. But ive been digging through my records today, and come accross MR. L. Cohen, I have to say " the man was talented, He can write, sing and grab you" I never thought i would be infatuated this fast... I got three of his albums, early ones.

Love and Hate.. (This is the one that hooked me)
Songs of Leonard Cohen.
And Leanard Cohen: Live songs.

The man was talented..

I am of Jennifer Warnes - Famous Blue Coat.
Recently picked up the vinyl of it.:banana:

I agree.

FBR as done by Warnes has to be the best Cohen album ever. The CD (which I got over 20 years ago) is great but the lp is even better.

Many of the lyrics are mysterious and other-worldly and her voice and interpretation fit perfectly with those lyrics.

One of my very most favorite albums and always will be.......it always seems fresh.

My ex introduced me to Leonard's music/poetry over 30 years ago and I've been a huge fan since. A friend has been promised tickets to his Connecticut concert next month....we shall see.

I still have the tape of the Austin City Limits show. Unfortunately, I recorded it at the Beta Is (superbeta) speed. Good luck finding a machine that will play Beta Is for a reasonable price.
