I like the 50-watt mid-to-late 1960s vintage Marshall heads the best. Rat Rod look is fine, especially for historic amps.

I love my 1968 Bassman! It had a hard life before the restoration.

I recapped my 64' Bassman and unfortunately it wasnt ever the same. It had a great feel with just the right amount of sag, while staying clean. But after the recap it became super tight and wouldnt compress at all. I replced it in my live rig with a 59' Bassman reissue, before going to a stereo pair of Pro Jr.s.

Which electrolytic caps did you use? Some take a healthy bit of break-in to get to a good sonic spot.

I have a Blonde era (transition) Tremolux, too. Blonde tolex with Blackface knobs.

Yours is in much better shape. Mine lived its early life in bars.

That’s a nice looking Bassman! Mine is a ‘69 Drip Edge that is an AC568 that has had some AA864 mods. I’d have to look some things up to remember what the mods were.
I used to pair it with a Marshall 1965 cab that I wish I still had. Now it’s on an Avatar 1x12 cab with a Swamp Thang in it. Sounds pretty good for certain things.

This photo looks like someone modified the circuit to a bias pot.

OEM Balance pot. With two 100k-ohm resistors hanging off it.

Rewired as a Bias pot. This is better, as long as you buy matched 6L6GC tubes.

I ended up putting a BIAS and BALANCE pots into my Bassman. The BALANCE is nice to reduce some of the idle hiss.

Thanks! I figured you’d be able to sleuth it out! The guy that did the work sadly passed away quite some time ago. I did have one of the power tubes fail and he had a matched pair that I had him put in, so they have very low mileage on them.
