My Dad recently passed away. I now have his old guitar, a 1962 Gibson Hummingbird with maples sides & back. I took it to the local guitar shop and the neck checked out fine, no warping or misalignment.

Now the challenge is to learn how to play it.

Very nice guitar, and an impressive record collection!

Sorry about your Dad--I'm sure it's nice to have that guitar.

Sota, what year is your Les Paul? Very nice, cool collection! :thmbsp: I use to have a Black Beauty with the micro frets back in the 70s'. It was my first Les Paul. They sure have sky rocketed in price in the last decade!

Stevie, my LP is a 76 that I have owned since 80...I bought it from a kid who needed tuition money "yesterday" for $400Cdn The guitar was originally a cherry sunburst but is a documented factory refin when it was 6 months old due to some bad checking (I was service coordinator for TMI during 74~75.They were the Gibson distributor in Canada at the time so I had connections to check it out before I bought it) It is the only LP I have ever owned but I've played LOTS of them and I'm sticking with what I have:thmbsp: My wife says I'll probably be buried with it:scratch2: The current prices...I couldn't care less, to me its "Just my Les Paul"

Pic of a few things from the past(wish I still had a few of these.)

I had one of those a million years ago, very solid and sustain forever. Mine was ash & mahogany, though. First pic isn't mine, but looks just like it.

Second pic is a beautiful 1978 Artist 2617 I had, somebody had stuffed an X2N in it unfortunately. 99% sure this is the guitar I traded even-up for the '56 LP Custom.

Last ones are two of the many Ibanez basses I've had.

Hey Fred! Nice LP and nice collection! Did you like the way your LP sounded? Mine played like butter but didn't sound all that good. It was kind of trebley and somewhat thin sounding. May have been made with green wood as some of them did back in those days!
I tried replacing the pickups but it never did sound creamy like my mid 70s' LP Standard I had. That was my all time favorite guitar. Wish I still had that one! :tears:

Best sounding was my highly-modded '56 LP Special (pic attached). The '56 Custom sounded good, though, I just couldn't deal with the frets. I have a few recordings (& videos, I think) of me playing it.

That's a 91 Surfcaster. Mine's modded a little. The stock tuning machines were retro and cool, but sucked ass, so I put Grovers on it. The bridge pickup is an actual 1959 Gibson PAF. I used to joke that the pickup was worth way more than the guitar. Now, not so much...I guess these things have become kind of spendy.

J.R. Thanks for sharing the pics! I have a good buddie that had a 76 just like yours but had to install the middle pickup. It didn't come with it. His sounded great but I can't remember if I played that or not, too many moons ago!

I refinished this pawnshop special. It is a 1976 LP Custom. When I got it, someone had removed the finish (and the hardware!) with an electric sander.
