Magnovox 2st257

USA. I NEED TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS

It looks fine to me, if your concern is based on (see arrow on pic) don't.

There's a term for that coloration which escapes me so I'll let others fill in that gap

That is a sweet looking console. Now that this Covid stuff is calming down I plan on checking out the garage sale circuit to keep my habit going. How many is too many?

Am I correct in that this is not an Imperial?

I am fairly certain that the magnificent magnavox on the tuner would indicate that it is an imperial. Check the size of the woofers. If they are 15" it should be an imperial. Also might be an imperial anyways based on the mids or tweeters. There were so many models with so many little differences.

Imperial refers to a model line (not just one) as well as Symphony, Concerto and Intermezzo

Based on the OP's model # it's a Symphony according to Magnavox's catalog

See here for clarification (Page 11)

As for speakers denoting that it is an "Imperial" I've not heard of that, can you provide an example?

Its not that I use the speakers as a model number but I was under the impression that the imperials of that vintage were the ones with the larger woofers. The line up you linked me to is awesome information. Thanks!

Edit: Going by the 1962 line up its good to know I'm not completely crazy... the 1962 catalog does say the 657 656 and 655 all have the 15" woofers and a total of 8 speakers. The true imperials have the 15" woofer as well but are obviously different. Learning new things all the time on here.
