Marantz 1060

Hi all

Suppose one founds a Marantz 1060 these days, what would be a good price? I found two, one for 350 € (with original manual), the other for 499 €.

Are these things to jump on, or way to expensive?

Thanks!

I don't know the market in your part of the world, but I would consider the one for 350 on the very high side (unless well-restored), and the one for 499 irrationally expensive.

That is very high because it says Marantz on it. If you want that word on your unit you need to pay the Marantz tax. If you just want a great 30wpc amp or so, you can get all sorts of amps for way less money. Really best to dive into your market and see what the gear goes for. Look at sold on the different euro ebay sites.

@ Dswankey: nope, 2 different ones. But to replace the hifi set from that thread... In the shop back than it played for one or two weeks without any problem. I reconnected everything at home, it worked a few times and the amp decided not to work again. So it's been unused since. Last week I took it another place to repair on a "repair café", which means, they repair while you watch... Same story, all worked. Got home, installed everything, worked like a charm for almost week, since then, stopped again. I took it apart, cleaned the contacts with contact cleaner, worked again... for a few hours. No idea what is wrong with it, and it's one of these cases you can spend hours and hours trying to find what's wrong and still not find it. I want to keep it though, preferably working.

@ PPstereo, thanks, I'll look into it!

^ Sorry to hear about the original pair not working out for you, as to your original question I noticed you have costs in Euros if so I have no idea what a good price would be in Europe. Let's say those prices were in dollars the I would concure with @spark1 in post # 2

way too expensive, every 1060 i've sold in the UK has gone for 150-170 and they don't sell as quick as the Marantz name would have you think. They're also pretty mediocre amps.

FWIW I don’t think that “repair cafe” concept would work well over here. If I worked in a place like that I’d have to say definitely don’t bring the kids along unless you want them to learn some new “colorful language” from the repair man!

OK, thanks. Heck, I thought when I posted the first time about them that these were good amps :-(.

Well, definatel no colorful language from the repair man. On the contrary actually... He opened the set (Sony MHC-RX100AV), saw the internals and was pleasantly surprised. When I showed him the MD-deck (something inside in the mechanism made some noise), he was happy to see an MD-player (MDS-S38) and someone who likes them, and it seems it isn't a bad one. He not only liked it for what it was, but also since on the MD-player is not only a digital in, but also a digital out.

I have a 1060 in my living room right now with a Marantz tuner of the same size. I got this one for free from my uncle, and I got another one for free a few years ago from a family friend who was going to throw it away.

IMO they aren’t bad sounding at all. I run some DIY Altec speakers with mine. But I have run less efficient speakers with it just fine also.

These have the same amp section as the Marantz 2230 receiver I believe. Mine is bone stock, but I’ll probably recap it eventually. It gets used every day, so that probably helps it to keep working.

No, it’s not super high end. But they do have the earlier Marantz sound that people like. Mine isn’t going anywhere soon.

But back to your original question, yes I think those are overpriced. I might pay 200-250$ for one.

Well, if you got them for free and one day you decide to give them away for free as well, remember me! :) :beerchug:
