MC-40 vs. MC-30?

Found a MC-30 on CL for a good deal. Had my AK friend Audiodon go get it. Turns out it is a MC-40. How do they compare?

It was the next generation design from the MC-30s, IIRC, Sloober. This would be the single version of the MC-240, of course. Differences: SS rectifiers, for one, slightly different tube compliment for another but very similar circuit topologies.

Cheers,

David

Well, if I can't find a replacement chassis, could I use this 40 to build an MC-30 on a new chassis? As said the tube compliment is nearly identical, so the transformers may be the same. They do have different numbers on their decals. John

sloober, I have read most people prefer the 30 over the 40. But you ought to listen to the 40 for a while and see what you hear. I have had a pair of 40's for about 4 years and really enjoy them.

I was thinking about your 40s when this topic came up. Unfortunately I've never heard the 30s to form an informed opinion of the comparison, but the 40s sound very sweet. :music:

With only the one, it's gonna be a tough listen. Plus I need to restore it first and consider the chassis options. It looks crappy. I know, Pics to come.

I think for the most part. The output TX should be the same, but I was told the wires from it may be the wrong length.
