UTOPIAN UNIVERSE?
I have been retired from McIntosh 4 two years.In case you didn't know I started in 1997 in the warehouse and they kinda made me area leader of raw material when they were in the building across the street,I had a good resume.It was lots of paper work and the boss didn't like it when I miss counted. LOL Then I saw an opening for Tar potter.Someone was retiring.I jumped into that position,as you know the transformer department is the Heart of McIntosh.I helped in other departments when it was slow,if you ever toured the Mother ship I was the guy that poured the molten tar on the transformers,incapsulating them in the cans.I'm sure I made a few good ones,not fun when I put them in the wrong cans but that,s a whole different post.Any how the new Mc451 looks like the big tube guy from the front,sure looks pretty,can't wait to hear it at Audio classics ??? I wouldn't mind finding a few under the Christmas tree,FUR Sure...

Your the guy I needed to complain to about my former MC 206 that had the buzzing trans former. I didn't have that Problem with any other SS Mac amplifiers. My MC 207's the first one from 2008 and the second one from 2020 that replaced the noisy 206. The two MC 830 are quiet, too. I had a pre owned early Mc 240 that had a noisy output transformer back in the 60's. But it was so far away it never bothered me. The MC 60 was driving a 302a I custom made for the TV.

I can think of some Great Altec and JBL systems that would benefit from the new MC 451. It might work perfectly with the Klipsch Jubilees using Klipsch's Electronic crossover instead. How about Altec A5 or JBL 65000, 67000, Mcintosh XRT 22 or 20, Even a XR 290 in a smaller space with the MC 901 for the larger rooms. It probably would work for me 90% of the time with my XRT 28's. It's still to much for my Bozaks. I can just imagine driving two Altec A4's with one MC 451. 75 watts for each woofer and 75 watts for a pair of 288C drivers on each horn would be a perfect match. 108 db 4 ft 1 watt. Thats 96 db at 1 watt 16 ft and with 300 watts about 120 db from each system, wow. I would be happy at 2 watt levels.

Thanks for the info. Just like for me the issue was always some engineer trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear before asking me if it would work or not. Then I became one of the designers but at least all my systems worked because I supervised the installations and did a lot of the work myself. I didn't mine getting my hands dirty. When I bought my second 207 in late 2020 I told Steve I wanted the oldest one he had that was new. It had been a display model at Audio Classics and may have been one of your last babies. Thanks for doing your part right.

The Mc 206 was in production when I started potting transformers,I think they used the same can from the previous model,so I had to shoe horn it in the can,I would put a inch or 2 of the molten tar in the bottom of the can and ease the torroid down into the can and hope the tar wouldn't flow over the top.I love a challenge,some great memories just getting the chance to talk to the coolest people passing through on there tours of the Mother ship........
