Tandberg tape machines were favored by Gordon Gow, followed by offerings from Revox and Nakamichi.
All these companies built excellent home tape products that Mac had no desire to tool up to compete against.
McIntosh, as primarily a manufacturer, was not into rebranding until after the Clarion years. The ill fated Stereotech project had left a bad taste.

I don't think any of the Clarion hired senior management had any recollection of the bad feelings of dealers who had to put up with the ill will created by the Stereotech fiasco......they might have learned their lesson and got schooled in the reality of badging products by the ongoing music server ill will. We will see.
As for the early CD players, the CDM series of transports from Philips were almost mill spec, with the proper updating of certain parts they can still keep chugging along.
Time will tell about the turntables and later disc players and such.
