Mission speakers?

I have a pair of 770's that I love. Sweet but clear. I'm going to refinish mine and run them with a REL stadium. They are great speakers.

i remember being mightily impressed by the humble 760i and slightly more expensive 780se when i first heard them... one thing they do very well is 'image'.. bass is surprisingly tuneful and 'quick' once you get used to the missing lowest octaves...

Are these still made?

:scratch2:

They are still selling new Mission speakers, although I believe that they are not sold on the US market anymore.

I am presently living in the Philippines, so I don't have access to all the audio equipment sold in the US, but an audio store in Manila is an authorized Mission dealership.

As you may know, Mission was owned by a British company before. Well now Mission has been bought by a Chinese company called AIG Group (along with Wharfendale, Quad and Audiolab)

Here are the Mission speakers I own: (a set of Mission M66i floorstanders, and a set of Mission M60i bookshelf speakers)

These were purchased in 2008 ... Very happy with the sound

It seems Mission has changed some of there offerings ... I don't even see my M6 series speakers avail. on there internet site anymore.

Mission has made some great speakers, I have five pairs and one of their smaller subs. The 780 bookshelf is an amazing little speaker, and of course the 770 has a well deserved reputation as a great speaker. Both of these are keepers for me, just wish I could find replacement tweeters for the 770's.

Which tweets did they use?

Still kicking myself for passing on an almost new pair of 760s for cheap. These are some nice sounding speaks.

Not sure of the number off-hand, but it's a "seas" unit. I'll get back to you with the model number if you think you could help me with identifying a replacement. I sure would appreciate any help as I enjoy the 770's when they are up and running. Last time I looked into it myself an OEM replacement was not available, so a substitute would have to be found.

The tweeter used in the original was a Seas H211 unit as used in the original wood baffled 710/720 and 730.

I've got the little Mission Model 70 MKII and the big Mission 780 Argonaut MKII. The big guys are new to me and are being used in my main system, though still deciding on proper amplification. The little guys are the speakers that re-sparked my interest in audio. Definitely a fan.

YEars ago I got a pair of 761i types cheap on sale, I still have the boxes in my attic. They sounded OK I guess. Kinda boxy tone and not very much high end. Rather polite or maybe more like indifferent sounding. Perhaps the mids and imaging were good due to the MtM arrangement. And still that boxy coloration stands out in my mind. A comparably priced pair of Polk monitors for instance, will blow them away. I gave them to my bro to use in his bedroom. He is not picky.

for small bookshelf speakers, the Mission 751 freedom speakers are an absolute bargain .... a pair in rosewood sells for under £150 in the UK on ebay .... these were in excess of £450 several years ago ... these are front ported and weigh approx 6 kg each ... make superb speakers for a desktop pc music system with a budget amp and dac

the older 751 (not freedom model) are rear ported ... these sell for peanuts and are really good .... They won several awards when introduced several years ago

Mission 753 are really good .... a pair in rosewood sells for approx £200 on ebay UK ... I stand to be corrected, but think they were in excess of £800 several years ago ... they also still look good compared to more modern speakers

Mission 773e with the d'Appolito arranged twin woofers. Found them strangely enough slightly better sounding than their marginally bigger 774.

Just connected my almost 30 yrs old 770. Bought a vintage Kenwood receiver (KR-5400) and the setup sounds really great. I would never part with these speakers. Still sound captivating as on the first day. A timeless design.
