Modelers Corner

I thought I recalled the Germans used the VW "Thing" as a common WWII N. African theater of operation`s Army staff vehicle due to the greater utility & capacity function of it over the Bug in that environment ?
Seem to remember seeing old German film WWII combat clips in documentaries of that vehicle in use in N. Africa during the conflict.

Actually the Type 87 was a surprisingly capable little vehicle. Had the upgrades that went into both the Kubelwagen and Schwimmwagen but had more protection. This photo of one is great. Next one I do is going to be this colour. It's a really good little RC car. Price is unbelievably low. The conversion kit doubles it but it still comes in at less than $100 USD

I had to remove the tunnel from my garden railroad because our new dog would stand on it and could jump the fence, or at least terrorize people walking up the driveway. The removal of the tunnel required that I move the B&B that sat atop it and this left a big "cavern" under the brothel. So what to put in the cavern. We model the late 50's so it had to fit in with the time frame..., or be timeless.

Then it hit me like an ape with a jawbone! I like things to be different and this is something I've never seen on another garden railroad!

I did this up on my 3D printer and the dimensions are scaled from Wikipedia, 1:25.4 (1" = 1mm). Some will instantly recognize it for what it represents, and others will just be scratching their heads. I've ordered some scale spotlights to highlight it in the cavern.

Nice photo of a VW Schwimmwagen and half-track attached to a Wiking company leader's Panther.
