my sad collection of "New England" loudspeakers

Ya'll missed Dahlquist DQ 10s, Stuart hegeman's speakers that fired upwards and had tuned tubes loading the rear.
And Snell!
Ohm is listed as a Brooklyn, NY company, but the speakers sounded west coast for sure.
NEAR was the parent of Bozak in 1990, so that makes both "NE sound"
Lastly, Shanhinian acoustics, maker of the Obelisk. I've wanted to hear them for years.

Figured I better chime in here:

AR-9
KLH 23
Advent Large - 2 pairs, stacked of course.
EPI T/E 120
Allison One
Allison Four
Ohm 4
Polk Monitor 7

Guess it's time to update my list (it's changed since this thread started).

Original Large Advents (very first original... no chicken-wire over the tweets)
Original Large Advents (with the chicken-wire). These are stacked above the other pair.
KLH 23's
EPI M100's
EPI 150's
EPI 70's (on extended loan to daughter)
BA A40's
BA A150's
BA A200's... two pair. I'm going to stack 'em one of these days for a shoot-out with my Cornwalls.

...and arriving tomorrow...
Epicure Model Ten's!

That'll make 16.

If I count my two sets of Kloss designed Cambridge SoundWorks computer speakers, that makes 22. And if I count my Cambridge Newton M50's, that makes 24.

And if I count the Tivoli Model One on my desk, that's 25!

Avid 103 pair (basement system)
KLH 6 pair (basement system)

My collection updated...

Vintage-
Boston Acoustics A-40
Boston Acoustics A-70 first series
Boston Acoustics A-70 second series (loaned to me but may stay after a trade)
Baby Advent 2 later model

Vintage stolen-
ADS 570s

Dunno if this counts as I forget the origin, but-
Micro Acoustics

NEW-
Polk R-15
Cambridge Soundworks Model 6
Cambridge Soundworks Model 17
Cambridge Soundworks Basscube 8 subwoofer
Cambridge Soundworks MC100 (3) surrounds
Cambridge Soundworks Center Channel

Waiting to aquire-
Boston Acoustics A-150s or A-200s (or if it's a good day both) and Polk 7s or 10s.

I'd like to hear those ADS (they were taken before I got the chance to hear them), and I'd like to hear some EPI and Allison speakers as well. Seen some funky EPIs I'd like to own (202s I think) and if I don't ever get my ADS back, maybe I'd hold out for some 810s.

I find the East coast sound to be my favorites for ALMOST all my listening.

I always lusted after a pair of AR 3's or 3a's but never had enough greenbacks at the time. The 3 series was known as an "amp buster" because they had 4 ohms impedence and a lot of amps did not not handle that well, blowing fuses or overheating. Boy, they could sound good. My speakers are all of the "New England" sound group:
Dynaco A-25
KLH 6
AR 4x

They all sound very good with the leader, at least to me, being the Dynaco A-25. The KLH 6 is a "sleeper" right now it's in my basement because I don't have room for it in my living room. If I ever can get them out of the basement I might put them in first place once the environment is better for them. Y'know, now that I think of it, the Dynaco's were made in Denmark so perhaps they don't fit here as far as where they were made, but the sound is right.

Ohm Acoustics Walsh 1XO's
Allison Acoustics LC-130's
Allison Acoustics LC-110's

I bought all sets at different times from a NE based store called Lechmere, whos parent company (since 1994) Montgomery Ward decided to close them as part of their bankruptcy reorganization in August of 1997.

All speakers were purchased at one of their 'special warehouse outlet' stores. There were only a couple of these locations. These special stores sold returned/reconditioned merchandise at really low prices. To be sure the items moved, they would drop the prices on merchandise in 5 to 10 percent increments every couple of weeks (within reason) until they sold.

I bought the Allisons at 40% off the store price as a returned item in the mid 80's; and the Ohm Walsh's as a returned item in 1989 for 45% off.

In my household, I'm rocking:

Original Advent (Utility)
Advent/1 (Utility) - 2 pairs, actually belong to my parents
Advent/2 (Utility)
AR-2ax
EPI 140C
Genesis 110
KLH 17 - gifted to Granny

I'm having trouble (horrible trouble) deciding between the Lg. Advents, the Genesis 110s and the AR-2ax for my main system.

...And I'm picking up a pair of Genesis I this weekend. It's not that I'm particularly married to the NE speakers, but rather that they're what I keep finding.

seeing as this old thread has sprung to life, I might as well also...

all these are now over 30 years old, but still sound pretty good:
AR3a
EPI M100
3 pairs of Small Advents

a bit more 'modern' but still 25 years old (need refoaming):
Snell Type E

and at 15 years old, and I think these still count as New Englanders...
NHT Super Zero

I'm in awe of you guys. Most of the speakers you fellas have would be rare or non-existant down here in Oz.

My New Englanders are:
1 pair Boston Acoustics A-60 (series 2)
1 pair Boston Acoustics A-150 (series 3)

Here's my stuff:

AR-4xa
Avid Model 100s
EPI M-100 (2 pairs)
HH Scott S-15s
KLH 22s

First pair of real speakers I owned were small Advents (1978)
