New C52 Pre-amp

That's pretty cool. I guess a bunch of Mc customers prefer a single chassis approach as compared to say an analog preamp with a D150 sitting next to it. I kind of like numerous boxes each specialized to the task at hand. I'm obviously in the minority in this day and age.
No processor loop(s), but I digress - how many folks actually use a processor of any kind anymore anyhow? twiiii should like the fact that it's got a 10k knob to twiddle with.
Like many Mc preamps of late, it's got meters. I'm beginning to think that I'm also the only one that doesn't want those on both my amp and preamp. I mean don't get me wrong, I wouldn't kick it out of bed!
All in all, I really like the fact that Mc continues to bring new and exciting products to market. At some point, between new and vintage, there should be a McIntosh preamp with a feature set to suit every music lover!

Oh yes indeed, I am so grateful I bought when I did, our dollar only buys 60 cents US at the moment, so that puts a lot of things out of reach...
It is nice to look, and I think think this is a great package and one I would certainly consider...

Other than 2 less buttons, looks exactly like the C50 from what I can tell. Still a beautiful preamp though.
edit: I just noticed - I think the EQ knobs on the C52 are smaller, which makes it a little harder to make tiny incremental changes.

I know that in the past, McIntosh did have Equalizers, but only the MQ101 was something that you'd be proud to show off. All the others were made to set once, stuff in a cubby behind your rack, and forget about. Hey man, check out my MQ104! Yeah, that never happened . . .

Once you reach a certain high performance level, such as the three new preamps, then any add on box would need to be the same level. This would mean a very expensive EQ and today I doubt there is much market for a simple ten band. You would need to be parametric with a computer interface to control it if you wanted something truly useful. This is best done with digital DSP just like a studio would use. Therefore the MEN220 or one of the big MX models make sense for a DSP solution because they have the digital processing power.
The other way is to add the 8 band as in the C52 where the rest, chassis, power supply, switching, etc. is already finished. This has been a popular feature from C32 to C52.

It would be good to be able to utilize the Parametric EQ in the MEN in real time either through the front panel or from your computer or similar...
I always thought that would be a nice addition to the MEN....
If you don't want EQ and meter, go the C47, Meters and EQ, go the C52....If I was buying and could have either I would take the C52 even though I wouldn't use it that often.....

Yes thanks Ron, thats how I currently use it. I guess being an audio engineer I'm used to having my EQ in real time. We tend to like to boost and sweep a frequency around, a bit like tuning a radio station to hone in on what we want to adjust, then make the cut...I'm so used to doing it that way...
I do like the MEN, its a very powerful tool, capable of really transforming a system.
However, there's incentive to get the C52 right there, the 8 band EQ would get more use than the 5 band I currently have on the C48....Hmmmm....
Hope our $$ strengthens against the US, I like this pre-amp more and more every time I look at it....:sigh:
