New Mac Gear debuts at CES 2007

Like other high-quality McIntosh power amplifiers, the MC205 incorporates the newly developed McIntosh Dynamic Power ManagerTM circuit, or DPMTM. This unique circuit allows the MC205 to deliver its full power into a wide variety of loudspeaker types. DPMTM allows the MC205 to be optimized for whatever speakers are used. Unlike other high-current designs, the MC205 delivers the same 200 watts per channel into both 4-ohm and 8-ohm loudspeakers. The Dynamic Power Manager automatically controls and optimizes the power supply’s voltage and current balance, delivering higher voltage that 8 ohm speakers require, and automatically adjusting for current-hungry 4 ohm speakers. Furthermore, a new “smart” circuit optimizes amplifier characteristics for the impedance of the speakers connected automatically, always delivering the full amplifier.

I believe the MC207 was first to use DPMTM, now the MC205. I am wondering if this will be the standard for multi-channel amps or will this eventually spread to 2ch/mono's SS as well, eliminating the autoformers? I hope not...:scratch2:

The 5 channel amp

Does anyone know how much this piece costs? It will be in my home by the end of the year anyways. Anyone ordered any yet? Love the 3 channel plus 2 channel thing. Happy Ukrainian Christmas Jan 7!

I'm going to guess just over $5000. The last price I saw on the MC207 was $7000, that is for 7 channels. So It would be logical for 5 channels to cost $5000 or a little over to cover a New Years price increase.

Ok, we have Victor at 5, Ivan at 7, do I hear 8? Going once...

Yes, it's the new McIntosh eBay-style pricing system. Newly announced units are sold to the highest bidder!

Just kidding...
