No smart phone.

In my experience, the WiFi transmitter/receiver is built into the router.
Like an integrated amp, that combines router proper and access point in one chassis.

I use a Cisco VPN router to access my company servers and use three access points around the house for thorough coverage.

I realized I wasn't using the streamer set up I have now much so it probably would have been a waste . I have approx 1200 lp's many cassettes ,cd's, R to R tapes and I find myself only listening to vinyl.

With the money you saved you can buy some new wax.:idea::music:

I use to be a rocker. From Yes, to the Grateful Dead, to Metallica. Is GD rock? Jerry was a banjo player so I think they are really more folk/bluegrass. Anyway, now I inherited lot's of Classical. I have heard mixed messages about new vinyl ; unless you want to buy the really good expensive stuff. Right now I am obsessed with the Romeros Spanish guitar.

I no longer buy new vinyl unless it's just something I "have" to have. Still decent used out there thankfully.

When they wanted to and they often did the Dead could rock with the best of them, that being said they melded a lot different genres into their musical stew.

Speaking of Spanish guitar check them out doing Spanish Jam which was an ode to the Malaguena which if you believe the internet was inspired by Miles Davis's Solea from his album Sketches of Spain

I control both my streamers from an old iPhone with no service. It's really an easy day. And as I mentioned you can probably find someone that will give you one. It's only a remote w/ a calculator and such.

Likewise here, albeit one outta service iPhone.

Also stream via old laptops.

Y'all can stream w/ about any Android, Apple, Windows and probably all those Linuxish OS devices, but the ol' SQ will vry depending on the quality of the device's soundcard, I reckon. In my case, the SQ emanating from my (new in November 2022) Samsung Android Phone is effin' excellent, very close to an HP laptop w/ hot mods and even a Lenovo fitted w/ an outboard DAC.

PS: I have approximately 40% hearing loss overall, and higher still @ higher frequncies, so don't put lots of stock in my experience. Or, maybe, on the other hand...

I think this thread has been through all the options. I'm not very familiar with (or a fan of, for that matter) streamers with local UIs. I'm very much a fan of little, 'headless' (i.e. no local UI) streaming boxes, with either internal or external DAC, next to the hifi, remotely controlled from anywhere in the house via a wifi-connected phone or tablet.

Edwin:

What hot mods were you able to do to an HP laptop?

I have an unused TRAC PHONE (Galaxy 7- android) that is charging right now... I will attempt to use it to control my new Bluesound Node X tomorrow. I'm currently using my PC via blue tooth, but it would be easier to just use my phone as I sit in my La-Z-Boy recliner !

Well, the phone is a Samsung Galaxy A11 and the BluOS app downloaded quickly and works wonderfully! very happy with the new Node X.

Trac Phone tries to trick you into thinking you need to buy airtime to make the phone work, but thanks to AK I now know better
