I haven't looked at the schematic, but if I were laying out the board, I'd have R2 on the left, and R6 on the right.

Now watch me be 100% wrong.....

I'm not following this too closely, but to my eye R6 appears to be on the left, R2 on the right. R2 connects to Q3, yes?

Both R2 and R6 are 100k resistors, so you're good either way! For the purposes of completeness though, I checked the board layout files - R6 is on the left, R2 is on the right.

just make sure you use a fine tip because those holes if you get solder in them are a pain to clean out

Yep, I'll put a SMALL tip in my Weller when the parts come in.

I have an SX980 that I’m quite certain has a failed PA3004. The solution by alex and @merlynski looks awesome, and possibly more reliable than the few old stock parts found on eBay. If I could get a through-hole version of the PCB I’d be willing to build it and confirm it works on that model. Unless I missed something so far it’s been successfully tested on the SX780,880,1280, and SA-7700.

@mark long may have some extra thru hole boards! Otherwise I've been meaning to build out some of the extra SMD boards I have to make available- I'll try to get to it this weekend and let you know!

After a couple of weeks I've received a PA3004 substitute PCB and installed it in my SX980. Things are improving (relay clicks now) but there are still some problems.
