Just bought my first set of Infinities. My friend picked them up and is storing them for me. Haven't even seen them yet. Surrounds need to be replaced but hopefully will be worth it

BTW I picked them up for $60 plus some gas/beer money for the friend. Now all I need to do is find an amp to run them

You're gonna love those RS II's. The re-foam is pretty straight forward. Check the mid-range drivers as well...that foam can get crumbly too. I ran my pair off both a Sansui 9090 dB and an Adcom GFA 555 II with very nice results!. You have a very fun and easy restoration ahead. Still haven't found an amp, but I did run across an SAE 2400L. Just not sure if I want to jump the gun on the $350 price tag though.

The midrange drivers will be fine, the surrounds are rubber.

hartattack the surrounds on the mids are rubber.

These speakers are very much worth the work, I love mine dearly.

Just installed the SAE 2800 Parametric Eq in my rack for my Infinity QLS-2's. As you can see by the Rack I am still working on getting one more amp to bi amp them (SAE 2400L). But overall they sound really good set up just like they are.

Another veiw less the amps which are on the bottom. These are the pair of QLS-2 I got of ebay which needed the foams on the Watkins DVC Drivers refoamed. I bought the kit and refoamed these myself, very easy to do. Word of advice is to buy the foam kits that you center the voice coil by using the output of your amp rather than the ones which you have to shim, its real easy.

I have been using an /acurus a250 on my RSII 's since 1997. I bought amp new, they are available on ebay for around $300-400. Amp has lots of clean power at low impedance. Get the RsII's professionally refoamed. The speakers you have are just to good, not to spend some moneyon them.I used Simply Speaker ,http://www.simplyspeakers.com/15refoaming.htm. They did a great job. tweeters can be checked by listening to high frequency
violin music. Simply slide the fuse in the rear in and out of the fuse holder and listen for sounds through the front & rear emit tweeter.

Great find! Good luck with the refurb. The Howard's suggestion is the real kicker here. It really does wonders on this golden oak finish. Here's my results....

here is a pic of my new infinity score. the kappa's, you have already seen but i just scored the cs3006's. they are in 110%condition and i tried them biamped with the hk 3490 pulling mid/high duty and my adcom gfa 545II taking care of the low-end.
after a few small eq adjustments they sound quite good and image very well.
one other thing that suprised me about them is infinity's site claims an 8ohm impedence but using my meeter i got an average of 4.2 ohms. with that, they take the power i have very, very well and will be in rotation now.
imo, they seem to be a great overall speaker for "jamming out to" though they are a little brighter than the kappa's. i may pad down the tweater some but we will see on that.

ps. the kappa's sound 3x better bi-amped(same as above) and will be ran this way untill i get my 555II back.

Update

Missing the original woofers, guy I got them from said he dumped the woofers cause they were rotten on the outside.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! :bash: Anyway these were wired wrong inside and if you look close the tinsels are shot on the mids. Other than that they are coming along fine.

Well the Q5's are done and the front Q3's, working on the back Q3's, just won a set of mid base spkrs today for $36 on eprey :thmbsp: any way they sound awsome now.
Also I'm using the Q5's to warm up an SX1280 and I'll tell ya the 1280 can really make them come alive, along with a 1250 also. The bad is that once the very low freqs come into play the amp kicks out still but at very high listening levels, no loudness needed here. Excuse the mess. This is part of my work shop also.

The mid range tweet has been replaced with an original, the one shown on the right is an Audax, hard to hear the difference.

hartattack, the RSII's are one of fellow AKer Arkay's top favorite speakers. he's one of the most long-winded and (thankfully!) enjoyable posters on the site :thmbsp: you should see if you can find a thread or two about his RSII experiences. he's got a lot of other great gear and knows what he's talking about. i'm sure there are more than a few other RSII owners on here, but i can't think of any off the top of my head. enjoy them!

Geez, don't look at a thread for a little while and people start saying things about you, behind your back! :nono: That's okay, just kidding. Chris is right, though, at least about some things. I am sometimes long-winded D), and those are my favorite speakers, out of the ones that I actually own. I believe there are better speakers out there (1bs and IRS-Vs, for two obvious examples), but I don't have those, and I think the RS IIs are pretty wonderful as they are. I rank them above both the Kappa and the Renaissance series, for example, by a good margin.

Do get them fixed up properly; they are worth it! :yes: And whatever you do, make sure that you get a high-current/low-impedance-capable amp to drive them. These are "amp killer" speakers, and not only will they kill your amps, they may partially self-destruct in the process. Replacement drivers are getting harder to find and more expensive, all the time, so it's best to try to preserve yours. If you have any doubt about an amp being suitable, come back and ask in this forum. There have been discussions of this in the past, so you can also get a good idea of which amps would be good choices, from reading up in the archives.

I just ran down through this thread, and am glad I did.
Was thinking about maybe selling my Infinitys for a newer brand, since my Kappa 9s have been around for quite some time now.(refoamed in 2004 and still sound great) but reading these posts made me realize I just love them and would miss them, I guess.
