I liked the looks of the II but, it was a real downer after the 1st gen. Seems like Ford was trying to pull another T'bird migration (no pun intended) and really blew it big time.

I have always said that if General Motors and Citroen built a car jointly, you'd get a Pontiac Aztek. It looks like such a car designed by committee. Add to that the redoubtably ugly Nissan Puke, the Toyota Prius, every SUV crossover with the curved back side and rear windows you can't see out of. The Infiniti FX 30 was better looking than the Nissan Murano or it's baby brother the Rogue. The only good looking Nissan SUV was either the earlier Pathfinder or the first XTerra.

They hid designs from the Germans to implement after the war.

Uhh, no...Auburns were conventional RWD. You're thinking of the CORD, which WAS FWD-Their 1st one was in 1929, the L-29. Citroen came out w/the "Traction Avant", in 1934, & it ran til 1955, when the "Goddess" DS-19- came out. Citroen came out w/the 2CV, their Spartan economy car, in 1948, it ran til almost the 21st century. It had 2 cylinders, the 1st ones had a whopping 9HP, the latter ones had 29 (!), but they also got incredible mileage.
