Grand Canyon, Hermit's Rest Trail & South Rim, 4/27/07

first four shots taken from various points on the Hermit's Rest Trail dropping down into the Canyon. 7 hour round trip down to about 3000 feet below the rim, when gookinaid supplies required us to come back up...the last hour was brutal, as we were climbing STEEP terrain back up to the rim, which is 7100 feet above sea level. fantastically beautiful trail, though, and only wish i'd taken more shots. this trail was unbelievable, with the panorama of the canyon always hanging right there, long sections were more or less flat, just walking along the canyon wall.

the very last shot is taken from The Lookout, a turn of the century photo and telescope vantage point which in itself is beautiful. this is on the south rim, and you are looking down at Bright Angel Trail as it emerges from the clump of greenery visible in the center of the photo which is called Indian Gardens. the big cut you see extending into the distance is Bright Angel Canyon, one of the major canyons within the Canyon

needless to say, we had a blast

BroonsBane, just one of our Great Danes? (good lookin' dog BTW). Great pixs of Lake Superior, I particularly like the center image! (Were they shot up in Thunder Bay?)

We have two Danes and a Newfie, it's quite the herd :)

The first 2 Lake Superior pics were shot at our property, about 25 miles from Thunder Bay. The third shot was taken at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park which isn't too much further away. Uncannily beautiful, I have a love affair with my dogs and the big lake :)

This hawk has been in the same general location for the past week. At first I wondered why... but then realized the bird was eying a nest of mice in the ditch along that road.

Nothing like a roadside buffet :)
