Grand Canyon, Hermit's Rest Trail & South Rim, 4/27/07
first four shots taken from various points on the Hermit's Rest Trail dropping down into the Canyon. 7 hour round trip down to about 3000 feet below the rim, when gookinaid supplies required us to come back up...the last hour was brutal, as we were climbing STEEP terrain back up to the rim, which is 7100 feet above sea level. fantastically beautiful trail, though, and only wish i'd taken more shots. this trail was unbelievable, with the panorama of the canyon always hanging right there, long sections were more or less flat, just walking along the canyon wall.
the very last shot is taken from The Lookout, a turn of the century photo and telescope vantage point which in itself is beautiful. this is on the south rim, and you are looking down at Bright Angel Trail as it emerges from the clump of greenery visible in the center of the photo which is called Indian Gardens. the big cut you see extending into the distance is Bright Angel Canyon, one of the major canyons within the Canyon
needless to say, we had a blast
