I dunno. I think, though, that it's gotta take someone with some serious cajones to walk around a major city... hell, even a small town, blind. That's someone with some serious nerve. My hat's off to 'em.

Reminds me, though, of when I was at the new employee orientation at my current company. I'm in this conference room, and this one guy's passing around some work his group is doing for a project for the Canadian government. Web pages in braille, believe it or not.

He passes around the braille printout of the web site, and, when it gets to me, I run my fingers over it (yeah, like I can read braille), and I just can't resist... "Oh my god, this is a porn site!!!"

Well, I thought it was funny.

Same reason why a bathroom in a Fireman only sleeping area in the new fire-station has to have handicap access and they had to install an elevator that nearly doubled the cost of the sleeping area because the sleeping room is on the second floor. For a part of the building NO ONE but an active duty fireman is allowed to be in. How many active duty firemen are there that can't walk a single flight of stairs or stand up and pee?

Boy, you can say that again! I wonder sometimes if some lawmakers with probably good intentions and little-to-no common sense aren't just trying to "make work" to justify their positions. There is an art to writing laws that preserve common sense in the application, but that art is not so commonly practiced.

The Devil's advocate will tell you this: the number of such useless facilities
for the disabled is so small in practice that if the law books were to be
rewritten to allow not implementing them, the savings achieved would
be totally wasted in extra paperwork...

Seems to me that you're forgetting that just slightly over half the potential candidates for firefighting positions may not stand when they pee.

I think it would be a cute joke for blind visitors to read if the Braille said "Do not enter when light is on."
