Replacing Klipsch Midrange Diaphragms wi

Maybe the folks at Klipsch are 'catching-on' and have given in and are just happy for the sales

I expect Mr Cites will have some soon...

Hi All,

New to this forum and have been following this thread with interest. I have Quartets with the stock crossovers and the ti tweet and mid upgrades. To my ears they sound great! If there is 3-6dB bump in the range I can't hear it. That being said, I will admit to having untrained and less discerning ears than most here. My question to some of you more experienced audiophile's is, should I be concerned about this bump? Better yet, has anyone done listening comparisons with and without the added filter to see if there is an audible difference, good or bad? Thanks in advance.

I and upgraded a good number of Klipsch speakers to all ti diaphragms and I have not found any reason to be concerned. I have heresy and heresy3 speakers my heresy are 85 vintage and they have ti mids and CT125 tweeters I cannot say that I hear any bump at the top of the mid when I compare the to, If it is going to bother you get the filter but personally I don't want the added complexity of network components installed into my mid range thank you. Best regards Moray James.

Thanks Moray. As you already know I do greatly value your opinion.

Bob, you mentioned getting positive results with the Klipsch band pass design. Are you talking actual audible improvement or measured only? I'm really only concerned with what I can hear.

Sorry folks, it's not my intention to put anyone on the spot here. I'm just trying to weigh the value and see if it's worth the extra time and extra cost.

The K-53Ti diaphragm has been around since at least 2001 in some of the professional Klipsch speakers, like the KP-250. It's use in the Heresy III and Cornwall III dates from 2006. Anyway, from it's earliest use, Klipsch has always put a bandpass on the midrange section on the crossover to limit the rising output above 6khz when they used the titanium midrange diaphragm.

I did listen briefly to the K-53Ti in comparison to the K-53 phenolic without a bandpass and main thing I noticed was that the K-53TI was somewhat louder overall than the K-53 phenolic. Perhaps even clearer through some of it's range than the phenolic, but louder can fool you into thinking it's clearer. That is when I got out the instruments and the instruments told me it should not be used without the bandpass filter. No surprise there since Klipsch came to that conclusion over 10 years ago.

Hmmm... :scratch2:

I appreciate your help Bob. I may give you a call next week to discuss this further.

Installed a set of Bob's Ti mid band pass add-on boards in my Chorus IIs this morning (to compensate the K-53Ti Mid diaphram). The difference is subtle, but they seem to be doing what they are supposed to do. To my ears, the brightness is noticably diminished and there is more overall smoothness to the entire frequency range, however the great Ti detail is retained. Got to listen some more but I'm really liking them so far.

That's good to hear! I did manage to find a couple others who have added the band pass filter and are also quite pleased with the added smoothness and balance. I ordered my new Quartet crossovers with the band pass add-on yesterday and I already received my tracking info today. Great service! They were able to fit everything on one board as well which is nice. I will give my impressions after I get them dropped in and a bit of listening.

Received them from Klipsch today. Have not installed them yet. No polarity markings?

Mike

I bought mine with the whole driver assembly and polarity was marked on the magnet. Don't remember if it was also on the diaphragm (now it's all sealed up in the box). I do remember that one of the spade lugs was larger in width than the original and I filed it down to match the connector. Pretty sure that was the positive terminal. If no one else chimes in, I'll open one up and check for you.

Not to hijack but I have just received BEC titanium tweeter diaphragms for my forte 1's and want to upgrade the crossovers next.

Either BEC phenolic diaphragms or the Klipsch titanium with BEC crossover mods will come after the crossover upgrades. Really didn't want to jump the shark on things but it's very clear the forte's are a great design and were seriously improved by the changes I've made in the front end.

This is fun.

Well........the TI's are installed and I'm thinking Miss Norah Jones has never sounded better down here in my pit:music:

mid k53 ti

Hello everyone, this is my first post.
Having bought a pair of klipsch forte II, I have upgraded with titanium diaphragms tweeters and the series capacitors critesspeaker.
the sound is much improved, and now I'm waiting to reach the midrange titanium III of heresy, I had to buy them here in Italy, in Rome, because the Klipschparts they said to talk to the Italian importer.
I ordered them and know what it costs here in Italy? 305 euros ... However, I bought them the same, these Forte II sound just fine, I really like.
I have a question easy to do, on page 1 , post. n. 15 , is a diagram of bob, for the bandpass crossover because of these titanium midrange, but I can not understand the value of the capacitor, perhaps 1.5 microfarads or 2.5 microfarads? .

Thanks to all.

you will need to post your drawing or schematic. Another mod you can try is to add weight to the passive radiators to lower the cabinet tuning. 2.5 - 3 ounces works well just make sure the speakers are matched the same weight. Brace and stiffen your cabinets you will be happy. Damp the horns and all drives with dynamat. Felt damping in the horn mouth also helps as does time alignment of the horns to the woofer. Lots that you can do they are great speakers. Best regards Moray James.

thanks for the advice. I'm going to follow them to further improve the sound.

But no one can 'tell me what is the value on the capacitor bandpass bob Crites for titanium diaphragm k53ti? (jpeg in post 15 , page 1)

Thanks

The cap in the bandpass is a 1.5uF.

Only do this if you think the engineers at Klipsch are totally stupid and just completely missed these simple tweaks when they were optimizing the speaker in the lab at hope.

Thanks Bob, I will try 'to the bandpass DIY, and if the sound will not be perfect, be ordering him' to you.
diaphragms to titanium for the tweeters that you sent me are really cool.
thanks again.

Hey Bob: added weight comes off about as easy as it goes on. I think the Klipsch engineers miss as much as anybody else does on your average day. Lots of things are intentional decisions so products fit nicely in their place in the line and don't push other models around.
No one here is calling anyone stupid are they? Cost and looks are very important to any manufacturer. That about covers it. Don't turn this into some kind of personal thing. This is simply attempting to get a little more from what you have. Best regards Moray James.
