replacing plastic Empire 598 lid with glass?

Has anyone else replaced the plastic in an Empire 598 lid, with smoked glass like the 698 has?

I'm wondering about the best way to get the plastic out without damaging it, or the cabinet?

I watched a guy "remove the glass" from an Empire lid once.



He wasn't happy that he had to buy the enitire turntable.

Yeah the plastic is sagging now, and even if it wasn't, it doesn't look nearly as nice as the 698 beside it!

I'd be worried about the added weight to those hinges. Might not be a big deal but it's one of the pieces I am extremely careful with on my 598 II.

Yup. The hinges on the 598 are a bit shaky at the best of times.

Those hinges require special care at all times. On the shaky, delicate side. I say this as a long time admirer and fan of the 598 (but never owned one myself).

I don't ever have my cover on. It sits on a shelf as do all of my other dust covers. They are a pain in the a$$ and are just in the way. My bride or I dust the tables once a week and everything is fine. Tables in long term storage do have their covers on.
