Sansui AS-300 Speaker Restore

I just grabbed these AS-300's this morning! I'll be recapping the crossover and refinishing the cabinets. More photos as the process evolves.

Sadly, one of the tweeters made no sound when I tested the pair earlier. Pulled the woofer to get at the crossover. The good news is that both tweeters measured the same with my meter, so it's likely a bad cap or attenuator. The HF pot does have a good bit of corrosion.

Looking forward to the finished product, I like that the grill cloth is in pretty good shape which is always a plus for old vintage speakers.

I didn't notice this corner until I got the cabinet up on the bench. Thankfully, the MDF gap did not compromise the seal inside the cabinet. Some kind of sealer was used inside, and I can't see light through the crack. Just to be sure, I will caulk that inside seam before I button things up. As for the gap, the veneer has pulled away, but can be cleanly glued back down. I'll have to borrow a clamp to do that. I might fill the MDF gap with wood filler/putty, unless anyone has a better suggestion. Glad it's in the lower back corner!

Agreed! I have a near-mint pair of AS-100's, and that grill cloth is just my style. The grills on the AS-300's are in terrific shape, and the badges are perfect. They even have the black goop stain at the bottom, that was super common on all the AS models. Doesn't bother me at all - honest defect in my opinion. I doubt that the stain could be removed anyway, it's like tar.

A little more progress on the AS-300's. Finally borrowed a long enough clamp to glue down the raised section of veneer.

I have a set of these i been playing,,, and i recapped..... Currently have them on market place. and very good condition. In pic you can see i left 1 old cap in place as it was pretty buried in glue.
