Sansui G-22000 Restoration/Upgrade Thread

So far that is the only thread regarding the Sansui G-33000 I could find.
This isn't a G-33000 thread it's a G-22000 thread. :)
But I dont want to break something, like the Power transistors.
:idea: Are you sure you know enough to be working on such a large and complex receiver?
I would like:
- colour black (I dont like the blue in this units)
- no cheap crap (chinese)

I just noticed I didn't mention the filter caps I used, but they were the same ones I use in the Pioneer SX-1250 and SX-1280, E36D101LPN223TDB7M, 22000uF 100v. They are taller than the originals but will fit with plenty of room to spare. The increase in capacitance will not hurt this receiver at all, it has a robust soft start circuit. I know some who have used 33000uF with no issues as well. As far as finding a black colored cap, that will be more difficult and likely much more expensive as well.

Edit: 871-B41456B9229M is a decent option for a black colored cap, though much more expensive.

I read in other threads that bigger capacitors change the voltage and/or the current in the final stage so I was not sure.
In my case for this expensive piece I dont look at the price.
In my pioneer sx-1980 I used albs 22000uF, but here they were original that size.

No, this is wrong - unless you are playing your receiver at concert hall volume levels, in which case the bigger capacitors might allow slightly higher peak currents to flow in the output transistors. Higher current will also flow through the rectifiers in these circumstances, however the type of rectifier and output transistor fitted as standard in the G-33000 are robust enough for the kind of capacitance increase being discussed here. As for initial charging of the capacitors at power on, like many large and powerful amplifiers, this receiver has a soft start circuitry to limit the switch on surge.

even those are difficult to find in the right size and colour.
I completely agree with you that the black ones will look so much better - but sometimes with vintage restoration you have to make sacrifices, and I understand the black ones are (or were) difficult to find. I wouldn't hesitate to use the blue ones if they delivered better performance than any black ones, even if they cost more money.

If it was me, I might consider covering the blue ones with black shrink sleeving to make them look the part. ;)

Pretty spendy at ~90 Eur each - but they do look rather nice. However, other than from Mundorf direct I haven't seen any of the 'usual suspects' showing them on their websites, perhaps a new product?

I’m not sure, maybe.
The albs I used in the pioneer do not fit. The diameter is to big.
 
Thats the important thing, the quality. Thank you! I ordered the Mundorf caps yesterday and all other parts for the power amp.
 
Can I suggest that if you are going to provide us with updates on your rebuild, that you create a new thread. Lets not sidetrack Mattd's excellent thread.

Next week I will get the parts (hopefully all) and fetch my receiver.
 
First of all the Electrolyt and Mylar caps. Cleaning the switches and plugs.
In the Pioneer I change most of the Transistor to new replacement types, I´m still not sure if I will leave them in the Sansui.

Some Mylar caps are worth replacing, but not all of them.
Sansui used excellent transistors in the G22/33K, there are none at all which need replacing.
You should replace the protection and speaker relays.
The lever switches need to be dismantled, they are very bad at going intermittent...
If you start a new restoration thread, we can give you some guidance if you need it.
 
Did the new rebuild thread start? Sorry all, I just got on this thread as I am a 22k owner also.
