I also wanted to add that in my bedroom system i have a Realistic STA-90 and at 44 watts per channel is very powerful and sounds amazing! It competes with my Pioneer SX-980 for sound quality. Nobody even mentioned pre 1982 Realistic equipment. But i believe that Realistic stuff of old is just as valid as the 3 mentioned brands. And is very beautiful in the looks dept as well.

I've never been able to detect differences in amplifiers. IMHO, given today's state of the art, it would take a deliberate effort to design a bad sounding amplifier.

I do hear differences in TT cartridges, and even different styluses on the same cartridge (elliptical vs conical).

Speakers also sound different to my ears. Only the really cheap ones sound bad to me though. So, which speaker is right? I think speaker taste is very subjective.

I have the same receiver. Sound more powerful than 44 watts per channel. Radio Shack put out some good stuff.

What that as apposed to going bankrupt they merged with denon to stay afloat.

They merged to keep Denon afloat if anything. I agree Marantz is a prominent leader in today's audio business.
