Sanyo Turntables

I agree, the Sanyo's were not built with MC cartridges in mind. Not saying it can't be done, but they were prolly engineered fro high compliance MM carts ...

Back in the late 70's early 80's I dont think there were many Turntables built with MC's in mind.

Thanks! I really like the looks of it. Couldn't pass it up for the price :thmbsp:

I had a spare belt that I threw on it until I purchase the the exact one, just to temporarily test things out. Mechanically, seems to check out so far (although I don't have it connected to my amp yet - the sound check will be next).

Setting the TF was a bit of a chore, seems that I had to have the table running to do that (with very little space between the arm rest and the platter). The anti-skate has me puzzled. It's the type that's made up of two small shafts that pivot. There are no rings or gradations on the shaft with which to measure (not to mention that the small weight on the end of the shaft doesn't seem to move at all anyway).

I'm curious as to how I should set the cartridge overhang. I know that a lot of Japanese s-arms seem to want 49mm.

Old post I know, but I just picked up a tp 625. Antiskate has me puzzled as well. The tone arm seems to want to float back towards the rest.

Floating toward the armrest is a symptom of too much ant-skate. Anti-skate is adjusted by means of changing the position of the weight on the end of that little bell crank thing to the side of the tonearm. The closer to the pivot point the weight is, the less anti-skate you have.

Many many years ago I had a PlusQ25 .SH. Nice , but that unit had to problems , the cueing was too fast , and the quartz system didn't worked well , it had audible speed fluctuations and drove me nuts .Couldn't repair it .

With the antiskate disattached, I was able to confirm that the shaft has absolutely no gradations on it. Seems an oversight on Sanyo's part, although maybe the owner's manual addresses this. I checked out the TP625 manual that you provided the link for (thanks!). Looks like that TT has the same antiskate as mine, but I didn't find any mention on actually setting it. I think that I'll use your advice - middle of the shaft is approx. 2g of force.

@saunadog I know that it has been over 10 years since this post, but is there any chance that you might be able to give me the approximated measurements of the anti skate bits off that TP626? I've got a TP625 with most of the anti skate mechanism missing and I think I'm going to have to try to make one myself if I can't find one somewhere.

Alas, I passed it on to a new owner a few years back. Might be worth starting a new thread, I couldn't have been the only owner this table. Actually, it was a TP-80SA that I owned but the antiskate looked the same as the one in the manual for the TP-626.

Hi all it's been a while since I visited, nice to be back. Just got my hands a Sanyo TP-1020 looks like new with minimal scuffs on the cover. It works great.
The issue is that after it seats a few days when it's used again it needs readjustment of the speed. what can be done

It could be a dirty switch between the 33/34 or the trim pots underneath needs to be cleaned and adjusted. If you leave it on for a while does the speed stabilize?
