Schiit Fans ?

I took the Freya+ completely apart this afternoon and drilled a boat load of 1/4" holes in the bottom as that is where it is always the hottest. I didn't have time to give it more than a half hour test, but it felt quite a bit cooler down there than usual.

Note: when you put it back together be careful not to push the top cover all the way back, especially when tightening the nut on the volume control--the three buttons were stuck all the way in (I could not press them) and the unit warm up light flashed continually without operating. I loosened the nut and slid the cover out about 1/32" inch so that the buttons were able to be pushed in and return out like they should. All is good now.
Tip: hold the buttons in place with pieces of Scotch tape on the OUTSIDE of the case to hold them in position when putting the top back on.
Counted the holes: 219 in total- not pretty (didn't fit well on my drill press) but effective - temps are pretty steady at 102F, down from original the 130F. The top still gets warm, but not HOT.

That is dedication, but I guess if you have a drill press in the garage. What diameter are the holes?
Drill 4 more because 223 is a prime number.
Are there still four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire?

1/4" holes--had to skip a few spots as that is were the circuit board attaches... I wish I still had my milling machine, I could have got all the holes EXACT with that...

If I still had my milling machine I would duplicate the holes around the tubes on the other side- that would really let the heat out.
I don't have a drill press, but harbor freight has one for $90. It's tempting to pick it up and do this. Hmmm. I need another tool like I need another hole in the head. LOL.

You probably don't need as many holes as I made...someone else did about half what I did:

Nowhere to put one, and they are too noisy to use on a preamp.
.
AC Infinity makes some very small, very quiet fans. I use them for my tube amps. Set one next to the amp and let it move some air. I probably do not even need to use them because the amps are designed to take the heat, just as yours is.

Even though they are designed to run very warm, I kind of want the thing to last more than the 5 year warranty. All those electrolytic caps in there don't like too much heat. BTW, I use fans on ALL my amplifiers (pics of some - I also have a single 4" fan on top of the opening in the top of my Schiit Tyrs, and my Parasound A23+ has four 3" fans on it. The A23+ used to have an AC Infinity 3 fan unit sitting on the top that vented out the rear but that thing was noisy as hell because it was always kicking into high gear and sounding the alarm).

Saga+ doesn't get hot in passive or active mode, so I'm sure the Saga 2 runs cold. (Freya+ is a whole different animal from Sagas.)

[Btw, I have not kept up and I see the Saga 2 is the latest and the Saga+ is in the Last Call bin.]

I had a Vidar 2 and only sold it because I just didn't need that many watts, but I don't remember it being overly warm for the power it put out.
In this modern era, I don't worry a lot about heat.
