Schiit Fans ?

I put new feet on my Freya+ and Loki Max as the little spike cone feet held on with tape were just not making the grade. I bought two sets of aluminum feet with ball bearings in the middle that bolt on (pic 1). I had to go buy some M8x16mm bolts then grind the heads down to 1/16" thick as the boards in these units sit on 1/8" posts. (I would have had to order special thin head bolts from China and wait 3-4 weeks if I didn't have a bench grinder). Also had to enlarge the stock foot holes to 5/16" to get the M8 bolts to fit. Also put some tube guards on the Freya+ because I keep banging crap into the tubes.

Just happened to check the site tonight and see F after some products. Forkbeard.
Explanation of the new "Forkbeard":

And the new Wotan amp is out also. It appears that they remade the Tyr into a dual mono amp by changing the "choke" in the Tyr to a regular transformer to run the other channel... it must run hot as it has two built in fans:

I have been thinking about getting a 2nd Freya+ to use in the office- with the non "forkbeard" version being on closeout, I finally pulled the trigger ! Should have it by the end of next week.

I've had the Aegir 2 on my radar for a while.
I think I'll go for it with Forkbeard. (Although it looks like the module won't ship until around Thanksgiving. There should be a early adopter discount or gift card or something.)

I decided I didn't need the "Forkbeard" as it currently only works with Apple IOS, not the Android phones I have. Forkbeard is not expensive, but the regular remote is good enough for me, especially since I'm a cranky old fart that hates using a cell phone...

At 54 pounds, imagine what the Wotan would weigh if it had enough heatsinks to do away with the need for fans.

Specs show it is the exact size and weight of the Tyr, it has the same filter capacitance (160,000uF) and the same 24 output transistors- they just switched the "choke" into a regular power transformer to run the other channel. Obviously there are changes to the circuit board and the number of speaker outputs as well as the fans. I guess my Trys run cool because each one is only driving a single channel instead of two - the heat sinks have never gotten above 95F no matter how hard I drive them.

Ok, but if the Wotan had no fans it would need more heatsink material and be really heavy. Nothing wrong with fans as long as they are easy to access in case of failure. The Wotan is a real beast of an amp of which I have no use for but it sure is cool. I hope it sells well for them.

Once again I'm late to the party, as they're all gone now. :(

It would probably end up as large and heavy as my Parasound A21+ at 70+ lbs. That thing is a beast to move because it is so big- nearly twice as tall as a Tyr, which is quite heavy at 55lbs, but due to its short height it is pretty easy to move around (I can grab it easily with my catchers-mit size hands):

That’s pretty much a rack-o-schiit you’ve got there, innit?

I feel the same way. I don't like the idea of any audio equipment that's tied to a cell phone. The tech/OS of those things changes all the time so I figure that means that it's very likely in time one will lose the connection/features that the phone offers. I browse my phone way too much, so I like the idea of gear that doesn't force me to use it for yet another reason because I know that this means that I'll be distracted by the thing and check Facebook, email, texts, etc yet another time. When I'm sitting around listening to music, I like not having those kinds of distractions, which is another reason that I like physical media - I can see album graphics, liner notes, etc on a physical thing and not have to engage with the internet.

The Freya+ without forkbeard is showing for sale on the LAST CALL tab ($849)..maybe they found more in the CA warehouse?
Thanks! I had looked right past it, and gone straight to the current deals section. Still, a bit more than I have in my piggy bank, so will have to be content with my Saga (original).

I bought a quad of the newish Psvane "Horizon" 6SN7 (CV181-AT) tubes to go in the new Freya + should sound nice if they are not damaged by careless Amazon delivery folks...

Hopefully they perform better than the Art Series CV-181 that I got. They sounded fantastic when they were first plugged in, but after a week of burn-in, they were so microphonic that they were no longer useable. They just howled all the time.

I don't have any tube gear so I don't what you mean.
Is it like feedback in a turntable where sound vibrations are causing something in the tube to vibrate and create unwanted noise?

From what I have read some of the Horizon tubes arrive that way, but it is easy to return them to Amazon for a new set. When you get a good set they sound very nice with a bit of warmth and smooth highs which is what I'm looking for.

I had looked into the Apos Ray "select" tubes, but they were quite a bit more expensive so I though I'd give the Psvane Horizons a try (also, I don't like the big white base on the ray tubes).
