congrats, very nice unit !

I own the same, but mine has some problems with the MPX.
Nevertheless, even with FM mono it is an outstanding performer.

It is always fun to listen to it ! If V-Fet amps have some magic in them, this one has it, too !
 
It really surprise me that a transistor receiver (6060f) built in the late sixties could sound this good. I am making this observation since I am led to believe that ss receivers did not really come into their own until the big receivers war in the middle of the seventies.
 
The early Sony's are probably better than 'most' of the receivers from the receiver-wars era. The three mentioned above are heavily shielded, have state-of-the-art tuners (which means they are about as good as it gets - even considering any advances in technology) and were about as expensively built as anything made. Period. And, fortunately, they have sound to match. Eventually, my wife is going to allow me to get a pair of JBL L300 speakers to match the STR-6200F. :thmbsp:
 
I am using a JBL 82 (8 inch 2 way) with my 6060f and the synergy is very good. B-2 why are you selecting the L300 for your 6200.
 
The STR-6060FW produces lot´s of audible low order distortion.

This distortion (mainly second order) is so strong, that it can be conciously identified.
After some time of intensive listening most listeners tend to mask out more or less this distortion and many of it´s byproducts. It disappears for their ears and what´s left is a great sound ... :music:
Nothing else happenes, when we listen to loud music. Our ear physically produces lots of second order distortion at higher SPL, but our brain is able to adaptively mask it out to a certain degree.

No tube gear nor any speaker had any right to exist, if this woudn´t be the case !

Ergo: The STR-6060FW doesn´t sound like SS at all, it sounds more like tube gear or a speaker !

Bigger is better. :thmbsp: I like the sound (and looks) of the L300. No question that horns of this era are full of distortions and other inaccuracies, but they are also magical when driven by the correct amp. I think any of the vintage Sony STR-6xxx or -7xxx series of receivers is one of these pieces of gear.

not sure if this is the right place.... but does anyone know a source for right channel tone knobs for the STR-6800?

I'm missing one and got no response in my own thread.
 
The key word in my original post about getting a set of L300s was 'eventually'. That is, eventually I'll have a pair. But my guess is that it will not be in the next 12 months. More like 18-24. But, you can be sure that I'll be posting about them once I've got. :banana:
 
Recently acquired 6065 receiver. Have a 6050 in storage that need good cleaning - it was my high school stereo.

6065 sound great on my AR 2AX's. Almost seems like more bass than my Pioner SX950.

Thanks Glenn. I'm very pleased :D . The unit appears to be in excellent shape and so far the seller is doing all the right things. It will be interesting to compare this to my TA2000F-TA3200F-ST 5000F system and to the 6060F I'm currently using in my shop. I expect it will make the Kirksaeters sing better than even the 6060 can and it's no slouch :thmbsp:

The case does appear to be non-standard with the bull-nosed front edges and what appears from the back view to be heavy particle board used for the panels. Seller is shipping to Canada by USPS (something there wasn't enough time to confirm before pulling the trigger) so I should see it within a couple of weeks instead of having to do a relay shipment and waiting considerably longer. It will be interesting to see how it is put together. The chair order that was going to put me back in shop has been deferred until late this year and I've been going at mad panic speed on three kitchens and a coffee bar renovation so no chance to even look at your case yet. Got to make hay while the sun is shining, especially with the dark clouds on the horizon.

Sorry to snatch it from your hands ashnut. I couldn't believe it when I saw the listing and only delayed long enough to consider the feedback record (thus the crossed fingers). I'll certainly post about it once I've had a few days with it.
 
Upon closer inspection, I see what you mean about the case. The stock Sony cases are butted rather than mitered. So am guessing you are correct. But, you will certainly be able to double-check my measurements. If the STR-6200F doesn't do what you want, I would like to have one for my son-in-law, who was born in '71 and wants mine. But, there is no way, if I only have one. Right now, he is slated for my STR-V7 (when he finishes the AIA architect's test successfully). He may simply have to suffer with it. :D
