solid electrolytic capacitors

I am working on a Sansui eight and it has some Solid aluminum electrolytic capacitors. Does any one know if there is a source for them? I have found some but not in the values that I need.

Don't know a source, but they have become standard in computers, after the cap rot fiasco.

Digikey has some, I'd guess Mouser and all the other major electronic supply houses do too if that's what you mean.

Yes, solid as in solid polymer. I searched Mouser and Digi-key but neither had the values that I need. I am thinking of using Tantalum capacitors any thoughts on that?

when tempertantrums (tantulums) fail, its not a pretty sight. you can always go a little higher than spec on lytics and not hurt anything.

Problem is these are on the tone control board, I know I can go higher in voltage but I need to keep the capacitance the same. The ESR of standard electrolytic Caps is too high and I need to find something that has low ESR.

what are the values ? If they happen to be 3uf or less, on a tone control board, I would personally use a film cap. Otherwise I would just use a Nichicon Muse or Panasonic FC.....remember there is a 20% tolerance on electrolytics, so for example, if u need a 5uf, you can use a 4.7uf with zero problems.

They are .1@25 .68@25 and 2.2@25. I can get film caps. I was trying to figure out the best to use to get a low ESR which the solid aluminum electrolyte have.

This is a good question. I have a Fisher SS RS 1080 and it also has "solid" or "Sintered" aluminum caps. I asked the same question quite a while ago but no consensus was ever reached. I don't know about tantalums.....I don't know if these particular solid caps even wear out? I hope there develops some clear consensus on what these can be replaced with. Are the solids low leakage, low esr? Musta used them for some reason.

MTF recommends stacked films for tantrums and solids under 5uf.

Tantalum caps sound horrible. I would not use them in audio gear. Use the film caps. Why do you think you need low ESR caps in that circuit? what impedance does the cap see? The controls should be on the order of 100K. I don't have a schematic for the model eight.

I wanted to use low ESR caps as the originals are "solid Aluminum electrolytic Capacitors" ( That's Sansui's description) which are low ESR. These caps are in the direct audio path and used as DC blocking capacitors.
