Now I need to figure out arm and cartridge. The only spare I have which seems appropriate, is my early Mayware Formula IV unipivot mounted with a Pickering XV-15 1200.. Good combo?
Meanwhile… Spent a couple hours last night, polishing the dust cover and wiping the table down.. I’ll oil her up after I make an armboard to suit this Mayware arm. The Mayware, BTW..

The Pickering sounds good to me. I have no experience with that tonearm. I'd be interested in how it turns out.

Hey guys - what did the “original” arm board look like for these tables?
Was it walnut, like that of the plinth, or metal and painted to look like the table?
Were they pre-cut for a specific arm base?
Were these tables ever sold new with the Grace armboard that’s on mine now and - thinking it’s intended for an SME, were there Grace arms which also used that pattern?
No hurry on getting this set up - maybe a Grace would be nice…

... and for what it's worth, i think it wasn't sold pre-cut for SME, since for example my 2251 has the SME cut in a completely different angle (compared to the photo above) and i've seen other angles.
Probably it was always sold uncut (?)
That photo is not of my Sony. This is mine. Which I believe is more correct placement. And yes, as far as I know, the tonearm boards were sold with no pre-cut holes for the arms.

Heck the drive was sold on its own not a stretch for the arm broard to be blank.

And my Custom Sony plinth is under manufacture!! It will have a removable armboard but will be completely solid and thick.
It is brushed aluminum. I use Weiman stainless steel spray (the stuff you use on stainless steel appliances). Works fine. Be gentle, though!

My 2251 is currently sitting unused, sans tonearm, still needing to be serviced. Maybe I'll get around to having it done, one of these years!
When you take some of the parts off of it to clean, you'll be amazed how well engineered this turntable is.
