Sx1010 no sound

My 1010 has quit putting out sound…not even a buzz. It all lights up but no “click” from the protection circuit. Headphone out is also dead. Tuner meters are non responsive.

Any suggestions?

measure and post all ground referenced voltages (DC AND AC, black dmm probe to bare metal chassis ground) on the
power supply board (AWR-054, pins 1 to 15 inclusive)
and protection board (AWM-062 pins 1 to 12 inclusive)

You also should be able to find other lists of them in the forum as a guide to DC and AC readings.

Of course, download the service manual. First.
 
On AWM-062 here is what I have so far:

Pin. Voltage
1. 14
2. -9
3. 16mv
4. 0
5. 14mv (same for 6-8)
9. 7 (same for 10-11)
12. 7.8 ac


AWR-054 is scary off.

Pin. Voltage

1-5. 0
6. 6.5
7 & 8. 0

12. 0
13. 7
14. 3

measure pins 1 to 5 again but this time try AC volts .
all the other voltages are way out . meter error is possible .

Meter was bad. New meter shoes this on AWR 54

1. 60v AC

5. 5v AC

12. 0
13. -.68 v DC
14. -.68 v DC
15. -.32v DC
Nothing seems right here.
 
The PS needs a rebuild.
Its missing some voltages.
Do a visual check for a cracked board. The usual cracks are around the big regulators, pins 9 through 15.

you seem to be possibly missing a ground connection .
put one meter probe where D2 D4 connect together and the other to where D1 D3 connect together .. this is just for fun .or it might reveal something strange going on .
 
Pete makes a good point. Pins 7 and 12 are the grounds.
There are a few voltages that are indicating.
 
thing is a bad ground might well show as a voltage but it isnt . so i am leaning to a badly cracked board . there is of course meter error with black probe to consider . pin 7 appears to be grounded properly ..
ahh .. there might be decimal points that are typos like 10 and 11 .if so i guess it might be around q1 .
 
I appreciate the help here. Close inspection show no cracks in the PCB.

Pete, am I checking for continuity or voltage around the diodes?
 
Look for the collector voltages.
Also, the traces could be compromised and the board still looks good.
 
you might want to consider rcs16's modernized g-10 board he sells on ebay and do your set a favor. you can buy the bare board and load it your self or get it complete. the board runs cooler and and has a lower profile. the cost isnt bad if you consider you will be repairing your existing board if you dont get another anyway. i just wish he would make one for a sx-939! but i do have one in my 1010.
 
I’m just a hobbyist but want to offer this suggestion as you work on the 1010. You may already be doing this. Get a notebook ipad or whatever device you can keep notes on. Log the voltages and anything else you do. Take lots of photos. Maybe take a look at those pesky switches.

Pete, the collector voltage on Q1 is zero! Does that mean a broken trace?
