I bought a Technics SL-1200 MK2 for my Home Audio and now I'm looking for a cartridge. Which cartridge you advise me? I listen to Heavy, Hard, 80th and etc.

Shure M44 series. Loud and bold with a multitude of stylus choices from conical (G & 7) to elliptical (E). The G & 7 are available new from Shure and there are aftermarket elliptical stylii from Jico and Pfansteihl and some OEM still available.

Oh! Thanks.

Yes, I supposed you'd like a very dynamic, quick cartridge. Maybe an Ortofon or an Audio Technica? Name a budget, please.

I really like a Shure M91ED with the the EVG stylus on my SL1200Mk2 when I pull out the metal albums. I use the same cart with a JICO SAS on everything else for the most part. I started using the EVG stylus because most of my metal albums are not as clean as some and the EVG $14 stylus is my 'run in of new albums of unknown cleanliness' stylus. But I find that it delivers a slightly bassier tone than the SAS and that works for 80's metal which can be a bit thin in the mix. Especially Metallica and many of the bands they inspired. That cart and the SLAYER box set are a match made in Hell. :guitar::rockon:

Just installed the MC240 McIntosh Tube amp in my system. Not a final config yet, I have to recap the audio side (Just did the power supply) but I wanted to hear her a while before I did the remainder. You'll have to come by in a month or so once she has achieved final form. (And my Mx110 is back from Terry)

Yes, absolutely!!!!

And likewise, I'd love for you to come over and hear the TD-124/Fisher/KEF system I've put into place since the last time you were here! I also now have the main system in an upstairs room, instead of down in the dungeon (basement).

Welcome to AK, Vladi!

I too, love my metal, but typically eschew vinyl due to those awful thin mixes. Great thread.

I kind of liked the Dungeon. :)

If not the AT150, perhaps the AT440MLa for $200? I used that on my SL1200mk2 until I bought the SAE 1000lt and it was great for metal & 80's punk. I would pass on the Nagaoka carts for metal & punk. The AT's mentioned have good lows and highs, they are not your grandpa's big band/ classical music carts.

Budget up to 300-400

You can likely try out the combo I suggested for @ $50 with a bit of ebay hunting. For $300 you could add the SAS and another M91ED to house it. Are you local to the Boston area? I could swing by with a few carts and give them a spin on your system.
