I'd advise you pass on the Shure and consider a Nagaoka MP110 or MP100. I think those would suit your needs more than the bland M97XE.

This is a hard thread to follow. I don't understand several of the posts. But you know...a good cartridge is a good cartridge...heavy music or not. The posts I do understand, and agree with, recommend the AT150MLX and the 10X5. Toss in the Ortofon 2M Bronze, too.

See my post above, pass on the Shure or Nagaoka if you have to buy new. Used -hey if you can get a good deal - go for it.

My Opinion-
On your $300-$400 budget - go for the Audio Technica carts, AT150MLx or AT440MLa. The Dynavector 10x5 & OM Bronze are over $400.

If you have a budget of 300 to 400 then forget the cheaper nagaokas and go for a Nagaoka MP200. I've heard nothing but great reviews on it from many people...............

My friend who I respect his opinion has owned and sold the following and kept the Nagaoka MP200
AT150 MLx ,ortofon 2M Black ,AT OC9MKII Denon DL160 ........ and a few others.

My friend and AKer "Autobot" has a SL1210 and his ATOC9ML/II and now a /III is a Great on Hard Rock or any music IMHO. A Denon D103R is no slouch either. Both mate up to your TT great.

+1, the 1200MK2 OC9/II pairing is underrated IMO. The Technics doesn't get the most out of that cartridge by any means, but for the price, who cares?

ATOC9ML/II it`s MC, and I wanna MM

I have a vintage Pickering MM XUV/D4500Q with low hour NOS Pickering Shibata stylus and aftermarket elliptical for garage sale LP in Barter town for sale. IT's been in the family from day one and sounds great on R&R.

Oh! Thanks.

Yes, I supposed you'd like a very dynamic, quick cartridge. Maybe an Ortofon or an Audio Technica? Name a budget, please.
The only problem with that cartridge is no more original M44-7 needle anymore. You have to buy replacement . I have that same cartridge with after maker needle but I find from Netherlands this needle Tonar Diamond 6559-D5 www.tonar.eu.

The replacement stylus was available 8 years ago when this thread last saw life.
