Restoring my D2 and I'm going to replace the cables. So what would you recommend and where can I get them?

Look for low capacitance wire that is flexible. Mogami is pretty much the standard of the recording and film industry for high quality wire. They make low capacitance wire. I use Mogami everywhere, rather than boutique. Not saying the boutique wire is snake oil. Don't know for sure. But Mogami is very high quality and trusted by the ears that are trusted by an industry where hearing acuity counts for big bucks production and profit. Also, industry buyers buy for high quality, and it's their job not to buy for value without sacrificing quality.

Consider the capacitance requirements of your cartridge of choice. Try to match that. Low capacitance is best, but there is no universal ideal capacitance as far as I know. Some cartridges perform better with a specific capacitance.

Unlike old Rega and Thorens cables, those old Technics cables are quite robust and good quality. Are they damaged?

I have had great results using J&D cables
they have nice connection and are fully shielded with heavy insulation
plus they are very affordable
