, my father found it for me at the local dump a few years back, excellent condition (pretty near mint), love it, heavy as heck and power to spare :tresbon:

Technics SU-8600 in the house!
Hi ,
The Technics arrived early, It looks great, I hooked it up on the test bench. I turn the variac up and the relayed clicked in, so I played an LP on the AR-XA I have here. NO sound, nothing, checked all the controls and the back connections, speakers , etc. There was no pre-out/power-in jumpers!
I made some temps and away she goes! Sounds very nice through the test speakers. Some pics below.

My su-7700 just arrived today, nice match to my st-7300. The 7700 isn't as powerful (60 wpc), but its got the power meters. Mine sounds good, but I can tell its been out of service for awhile. The right channel was almost dead upon turning it on, but after playing for about 20 minutes, its back and sounds good. Not in the same realm as my Adcom or Carver gear, but decent.

I have Carver amps on my main system, love the way they work. My Adcom pre-amp needs some work.

After a few hours of use, both my tuner & amp are waking up after a long sleep. I'm amazed the separation and how well the analog tuner sounds... much better separation than my Carver ct-3.
the tuner (st-7300) is mint, other than a burned out dial bulb and was a goodwill find. I've gone back several times since picking it up hoping that there was a matching amp dropped off with it. Either I missed it or someone decided to keep it. Hopefully not sitting in a dumpster somewhere.
The amp (su-7300) came from ebay. Suprisingly, I was the only bidder. The guy bought it from the original owner and it has sat for awhile.

Good find! I encourage you. I never paid any attention to Technics [Matsushita] vintage amps until I collided with a non-working unit for a buck (100 yen). An SU-3500. I couldn't even wait to get home. I pulled the hood right there in the car. And I was not disappointed; I really liked what I saw. Nothing looked messed up — no signs of heat, charring or exploded caps. Very nice build quality indeed. And so it sits in my projects stack, and I can hardly wait. The more I play with these old Japanese, solid state units, the more I luv 'em. And I am beginning to think that the brand name is not nearly as significant as the individual unit. At 41 Watts/8 Ohms, the SU-3500 did not put out monster power, but members with even modestly efficient speakers need not hold back on that score when it comes to making a decision about a vintage amp. Keep us posted as to how it sounds. Recapping early 70's amp MAY freshen up the sound.

I have not opened it up yet, it's on my project bench too, under the TT I am finishing this weekend,? I like the way it looks too, similar to my Goldstar Amp.

a truly fantastic piece, i own a su-8600 and it is well above the other technics gear. I have previously owned a sa-700 and it sounds like absolute dirt compared to the su-8600

OK, I opened up the SU-8600, looks nice and clean inside. The selector switch was giving me a problem. I hit it with Deoxit 5, as all the pots and other switches. I will let it dry and see how it came out.
OK, it sounds great, very bright with the AR-XA, the CD's sound smooth and sharp.
The volume is back to where it should be.
