Technics SU-8600

My dad bought an SU-8600 back in 77' or 78'. It basically supplied the soundtrack to my life. It was my dads main amp till about 87' when he gave it to me. In 91' I took it with me to college where it provided the beat to many a dormshaker including the outdoor grad party. it blew away any other systems at college even tho the others were more modern. It worked flawlessly untill 2003 when it just quit. It would power up but not produce anything. I took it to the local shop where they tried numerous times to get it going but failed. After it sat there for 6 months I finally drove it 700miles to a reputable hi end shop (Audioplus) where they completely restored it for $135. It's been working great ever since and i love it. While it was in the shop I bought and returned 3 modern amp/recievers in the $1500 range because they let me down with inferior power and sound. I will have this amp forever.

Great History, I love the way it sounds, I had to open it up a 2nd time to clean the switch again, got it good this time.
Shes definitely a keeper.

My Technics own unit is still stacked among other projects in a pile. I just hope that I live long enough to get into all of them — I am ... sooo slow. And yet, I am very curious about my Technics unit — a little more humble than yours, but from the looks of it, only in terms of power.
I am very happy that you had your unit worked on. I hope that they replaced all the capacitors. If so, and if they were careful with values and voltage ratings of the changed out parts, this unit should be looking to be reliable and optimal in sound for many years to come.
