The '80s Playlist

Huge Depeche fan here. Some Great Reward is a great album. My favorite by them is Construction Time Again. Kind of different, but I love it for some reason.

I was playing the Icicle Works yesterday. Another great LP.

Right now, its General Public, another favorite 80s group of mine.

Hey nice one, I've been a massive Depeche fan since the beginning and have everything they've done. They look after their fans by releasing on almost every format possible. The SACD's are amazing!
Can't wait for the new album next year, it'll be their 12th studio album.....awesome

To this list I will add:
New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies, '83
(With the monster hit 'Blue Monday'.

For some reason I never got into Depeche Mode. I'll have to check out an album. Any particular one?

Probably the best to start with is 'Violator', the most commercially successful. After that 'Songs of Faith and Devotion' saw them incorporate a bit of a rocker sound!!
All good stuff, they have a huch fan base...but not everybodies cuppa though!! :thmbsp:

My favorite is actually either "Some Great Reward" or "Construction Time Again"
Both excellent albums and are among my favs as well. These two are when they started to get serious about the music, the two before where a little 'light'...a bit to 80's pop!
Actually I like all the albums :D

Metallica - Master of Puppets
Dean and the Weenies - F*ck You B/W Chicken (EP)
The Malarians - Good Times (Know EP)
The Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard in My Backyard
Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet

Yep. If you like the 1st LP try out Yaz/Yazoo or Erasure. Vince Clarke left to form both groups after the 1st Depeche LP.

Speak and Spell was a pretty revolutionary album for its time. Some good stuff, some filler. The next release, a Broken Frame, was much of the same. Construction time Again is my favorite of the early stuff. Black Celebration is a pretty amazing record, but its very depressing IMO. Violator and Ultra are my favorite 'later on' albums.

Agreed! 'Ultra' is a absolute fav and very underrated. Also since I got 'Exciter' on remastered vinyl I found it to be a perfect 'late at night album' just seem to hear so much more from it now. 'Playing the Angel' is also much better on vinyl, no CD loudness!! :thmbsp:

And adding to the list:
U2 - Boy '80

Picked up Some Great Reward. I recognize a couple of the songs. I like it! Thanks again guys.

Wow that was quick. Good on ya! Enjoy!
'Violator' is the one you'll recognise the most songs from, released in 1990. Although you may want to pick them up as remastered CD/DVD editions which gives you the album in 5.1 Dolby & DTS as well (UK editions are in SACD). :thmbsp:

Rasputin's has a pretty good collection of both new and used music. I got mine for $1.95. :D I almost bought the one with the woman with the scythe in the field because it look cool. I'll have to go back for that one.

Thanks!

The 60s & 70s would've been to easy and the 90s... I was sorta absent. Besides... a lot of guys seem to abhor this decade. You can thank the caveman. :D

Pat Benatar - Tropico, 1984
Bangles - Different Light, 1985
Heh. I still have and play both of these. Tropico was my very first CD purchase in 1986... I bought it three months before I even owned a CD player.
The 80's is my favorite decade for music. :music:
Tom

The 80s are by far my favorite decade for music as well.

Any Ultravox fans here? Vienna and Quartet on vinyl are pretty awesome.
