The best coffee?

Yeh i'ms ure the water makes a difference i have a filtering system , but i had been buying 8'oclock for 2 or 3 years & all of a sudden the last 3 or so bags are awfull , just no Coffee taste , but any other brands (that are good) taste fine .
Plus a friend read an article about how they were changing to cheaper beans somewhere , they'll be sorry when sales diminish , i won't buy it anymore .

Again, opposite my experience.

Are you buying the 100% Columbian in the brown bag, or the regular stuff in the red bag? And, ground or whole bean?

Our Costco has a roasterie right inside. The coffee they roast is branded as Seattle Mountain Coffee. .... 2.5 lbs. for $8. .....

Sounds like a good deal; from the web it looks like the Seattle Mountain Coffee
sells for a lot more from other sources, and your local coffee is roasted on the spot; have never seen a Costco with this in the SFBay area; anybody else out there have one like this near them?...

It comes in Sumatran (great for espresso), Columbian (medium), Breakfast (light), and Columbian decaf. 2.5 lbs. for $8. We grind the whole bag, and vacuum pack it at home, and just use a little at a time. We have a Keurig machine with the "My K-Cup" filter, so I can use my own beans. And we have a Starbucks Sirena espresso machine.

We stay awake all day.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

I bet you do.:D

We have a Costco in Plano west of Central Expressway that has a roaster. I haven't tried their coffee yet, but may just try bag soon. That is a very hard price to beat!

Lately the red bag , that's what i bought for years , i have bought the Brown bag , but not in the past 6 months or so , i just wonder if the new beans have not reached certain areas yet & are just starting to show up , maybe i'll give 1 more brown bag/columbian a try , then i'm out .

I wish i could find that article from just before xmas about them changing to cheaper beans .

I'm not disputing the possibility of them changing bean source or quality.

I'm only saying the (100% Columbian / brown bag) stuff tastes alright to me. I've never had the standard / red bag stuff to compare with anything else.

Water makes such a huge difference, bad water will turn the best coffee in the world undrinkable. Every major place that sells coffee or soft drinks has a bank of big water filtration canisters in the back room.

If you've been making your coffee with tap water, give this a try...get some bottled water and make a pot with that. Or, get one of those faucet attachments or the plastic pitcher gizmo that you fill up and then when you pour out the water it goes through the built-in filter. You might be very surprised.

A lot of water supplied to homes has high chlorine content, along with other "local" flavors that you've simply become used to. Doesn't make good coffee, though.

I learned my lesson on this. When I was still traveling a lot I finally got totally fed up with those little coffee pots in the hotel rooms. Coffee always tasted like crap. So, I ground up some of my most favorite coffee from home, and took it with me. First thing in the morning I make a cup and I'm looking forward to that first sip...tasted like crap.

Don't ignore the water.

We both use CPAP machines when we sleep, so we always have distilled water in the house for the humidifiers. Try THAT in your coffee some time!

Or, don't ignore the coffee maker. :D

I was watching a TV show one time, one of those daytime deals with outrageous stories of crazy situations...Jerry Springer-type stuff.

They had a couple of flight attendants/stewardess that said they used the in-room coffee pots for laundering their undergarments in a pinch. Hot water and all, you know. Not vouching for the truth of that, but that was one part of their story. :scratch2:

You guys may be on to something. I just finished my brown bag columbian
and it was not as good as the last one. Not terrible but kinda tasted like
25% eight o clock and 75% maxwell house with that sweet bite. Not as
smooth as before.

The best coffee is the coffee you roast yourself...sorry but I have tried the Eight O'Clock Coffee 100% Colombian was am not impressed...:thumbsdn:
I'll take a good quality freshly roasted at home Guatemalan, Sumatran, Kenyan or Ethiopian any day...
Cost per pound is somewhere in the 2-4 dollar range...West Bend Poppery II 1-5 dollars at the thrift store. Fresh roasted HQ coffee...rocks.

I agree. For espresso, I use the following for my daily fix...

Best coffee...hmmmm. Several good brands come out of a little town called Jayuya in Puerto Rico. One is La Finca and the other is Tres Pichaos. La Finca has a very bold taste right to the end. Tres Pichaos is much more mellow, quite nice. However, for the absolute best, we have a farm there and my brother-in-law picks coffee, sun dries it then roasts it in the oven, then it is ground. Make expresso out of it. It is the next best thing to use to raise the dead. Wow, what a rush that stuff is. No, it is not cross breed with anything else. Plan to move there and run the farm in a few years with coffee being at the top of the list. Nothing like growing your own, if you know what I mean....

Then stay away from the Red bag , it has a chalky aftertaste now ..... but i will try the Columbian 1 last time & then i'm done if that's not good .

well, did not read the whole thread. . . but last week i bought an original "MOKHA" from Jemen in arabic trade shop. just want to add, i like it a lot!

I just emailed them at eighto'clock.com, and asked if they changed their beans and/or blend. I told them it is near undrinkable. I suggest all you 8 o'clock drinkers email them too. When I receive a response, I will post their reply.

I received my reply from 8 o'clock coffee. They did not answer my question about changing beans or blend, but thanked me for bringing my complaint to their attention. They are also sending me a coupon to my provided address. I think, they probably have changed the beans, otherwise wouldn't they have said no?
