The Great Vinyl Experiment

Did you try going to the carwash and using the wand?

Probably too expensive unless you had a helper to set up and flip the LPs.
Besides you'd get the labels wet.

But if you do go, make sure you use the faoming brush though, The mechanical action really does a better job of cleaning, well at least on my Explorer :D

I'd avoid the Wax cycle...

Sarcasm may be the mother of invention. I have a pressure washer and I could mount an LP on my battery powered drill.

Rotate at high speed and pressure wash. The dirt flies off ! !:banana::banana:

Well, maybe not.

One word, dishwasher, it's got to clean em and a handfull at a time, Cacade would work good since it dosn't leave spots, with that spotting action I hear tell off. Make listening more interesting too, since the labels will probably be gone, every choice will be totally random.

Let's not discuss putting things in dishwashers, its gotten some into trouble round here.

I like dishwashers. I had some LPs that went through a flood. Old labels and jackets had turned to black mold, etc. But I thought maybe the vinyl survived? So I pried off the moldy bits and tossed couple in the dishwasher on cool water and let them have at it. Came out clean enough to play. Some surface noise, but at least I can hear if there is anything worth recording off of them before I toss 'em :)

this thread is just...it brought a tear to my eye on a few occasions.

I did however note a distinct lack of alcohol in the last few pages...

I can't believe I read the whole thing. Thank goodness for OCD...but there were moments where I thought it would go on forever.

... and it probably will. ;)

This was like a vinyl takeoff of Mythbusters (if more tongue-in-cheek)!

I do. :smoke: Got some Streisand too, if you can stand it.

(Call me next time... I make a good lab assistant. )

Don't let my wife catch you she loves Barbra Streisand and Barry Manilow for that matter.

Always remember that episode of the TV show The Young Ones where they showed Hell.

The devils assistants were making people listen to Barry Manilow as torture.

Keen observation sir.

I love mythology. I don't accept myths as fact though. I'm no scientist, but even I can perform rudimentary experiments.

This thread may go on forever, especially since the Frog periodically links back to it, but my testing is done (I think). Others should feel free to post their results here, if they like.

That would basically be that steamer dealie so many liked...

Ya know, I really thought I'd like the steamer, but my results were just okay with it. I even filled it with that really expensive but otherwise worthless MOFI and AVS cleaners and used that as my steam. I don't doubt the steamer works, it just (for me) failed to work any better than scrubbing and vacuuming. Add in the PITA factor and mess...and it simply wasn't a worthwhile endeavor. YMMV.

Well, that probably was a waste of cleaners as for the most part they would NOT boil off together and act as MOFI steam, but differentially or remain behind if they were ionic salts. Most solutions unless they are something special called azeotropes, do not exhibit the same proportions in steam/vapor phase.

Just ask the boys out in the woods down by Sandy with all that copper pipe :D

Well had I been sober I probably would have thought of that... well not in those fancy terms, but something like that.

Over by Sandy? How about back behind the field behind my house?

Wow! 31 pages from what originally was just(en) some drunk guy trying to rec a wreckord...I mean wreck a record :^)

Ahhh HypnoToad, thanks for the walk down memory lane (Have we got a video?!?!?). I've been trying to get Footoomch and Orgo to appear for years but it hasn't worked so far. Just think, if they had filmed that less than 7 years later they could have been queuing up Kenny G alongside the Manilow in their torturous exploits.

speaking of bad records, I once bought a milli vanilli at the local SA just for the pleasure of melting it into a bowl.
