Topping DX3Pro

I still haven't received my mass drop unit Hopefully by next week. I just wanted to spread the word that if someone had a defective unit they can send it in for a new one.

I don't know what player program you're using. However if it has the option of using WASAPI or ASIO you should jump on one of those wagons. Both allow a music player to bypass Windows internal mixer. The internal mixer has a negative effect on the sound. There is IME an easily audible difference between ASIO/WASAPI and Windows mixer. Foobar, Media Monkey and MusicBee all support both WASAPI and ASIO. In addition they are free. All three are IMO an order of magnitude better than Windows Media Player. I only use the free version of Spotify. As I only use streaming to audition possible purchases the feeds from free Spotify, free Pandora or free Radio Paradise work for me.

Radio Paradise offers several different sampling rates up to lossless FLAC files. Their 320Kbps files are adequate for my purposes.

FWIW: I use Win 10 running WASAPI through MusicBee as my primary player. All of my music files are FLAC from an NAS.

is musicbee free? how does it compare to foobar? what does it do that foobar cant?

Yes it's free. It has an interface that is easy to use and is (IMO) quite attractive. I've tried Foobar. MusicBee simply looks better and is IMO easier to use.

I use the Midnight Blue skin.

so I used this dac in my second system for my TV setup so it played a lot of netflix and youtube and my wife's rap and hiphop and i was never impressed so when i finally ****ed up and needed to raise funds to pay my credit card earlier this month i put it up for sale but today i used it with my flac files and my liquid spark in my headphone setup, and it delivers that silky sound, great detail, human voice doesn't sound metallic, turns out that the problem was the sources and the amp not this DAC. so now this is my headphone setup replacing the $470 Sabaj DAC and a pretty expensive tube head amp and it will stay of course the tube amp will come back as needed. liquid spark on the other hand was never on the butcher block. from the first minute i knew it was here to stay.

almost have all my audio setups dialed in and finalized. feels good to be happy and content with the sounds and on a budget.

I got a Topping DX3Pro in the recent Massdrop - as some reviews have pointed out, great with headphones, not so great as a stand-alone DAC. I wonder if they're using some kind of EQ in the headphone amp section - it certainly doesn't sound as good used as input to a separate amp with speakers. Just my .02

It's just one link in the chain and the chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

I temporarily replaced an Emotiva XDA-2 with the DX3 Pro - the XDA-2 went back in very quickly. On the other hand, the DX3 Pro sounded excellent with my Sennheiser HD598 headphones.

yeah sure.

I recently got a Topping DX3 Pro. I found an inexpensive open-box option on the bay. I had been using a Topping D30 with very good results coupled to tube preamp. I was interested in getting something with a remote control that could serve as a digital preamp replacing the D30 and tube preamp. I am feeding it with a Grace Digital IRDT GDI200 internet radio/streaming device, a Cambridge Audio CXC CD transport, and my Rotel RT990BX analog tuner. I was trying to come up with a way to get the tuner incorporated and I found an inexpensive analog to digital converter. So I have filled the two coaxial and the one optical input. Everything is now remote controlled, all the sources and the DX3 Pro, a joy to use, and very convenient. I have even been toying with the Bluetooth input which I have working nicely via the laptop. What a versatile little box!

I am well aware of the past difficulties with early versions of the DX3 Pro but my unit seems to be a very recently built unit based on the serial number. So I will keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best regarding longevity. I like it a great deal and consider it an excellent value.

I should add that internet streaming via Bluetooth to the DX3 Pro works great. Virtually all the capabilities of the IRDT GDI 200 can now be replaced by the DX3 Pro. Also, I neglected to mention the headphone output that works great with my Sennheiser HD 600 headphones. It just keeps getting better!
