TPA 3116 vs the tripaths

yes, I actually don't know the difference between the 2x3 and 2x4 connections different alps have, 2x3 is like pot's I know

Ok I know nothing about these ,I iam going by the good things people have said about them.It eems like a more cost effective than the 50 or 60 bucks for a pre amp and I thinking if the source is not affected it could be nice, there are also trimpots but that is something for another time I guess.I am just shoothing in the dark here.hoping something will find its mark.

I am going to but there are too many choices and I just wanted to do a alternative,Actualy there is a Marantz clone tube I saw and I am damn close to droping the hammer ,here it is http://www.ebay.com/itm/6N4-3-6Z4-1...443?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4611e66c7b but I will probally get the 6n3 board 3 tube ,dont know too many damn choices.

I'm sorry but it seems to me that you over complicate about such simple stuff :D You already said before that you will go the preamp. road. There were also suggestions by others how it's the best way to go (for a better sound).
But if you want just volume I don't see why not to do it? If Yuan Jing does I don't see why you can't?! http://www.yuan-jing.com/Finished-Boards-Units3/tpa3116-class-d-2-0-stereo-power-amplifier-50w-50w

Or, perhaps order it unfinished and enjoy DIY http://www.yuan-jing.com/DIY-Kits/diy-kit-tpa3116-class-d-2-0-stereo-power-amplifier

There are also many preamps, even on ALiexp. and much cheaper than on eBay! Just an friendly advice
Simple as cake :thmbsp:

Haha yeah there are indeed a lot of options and it's hard to figure out what will be best. I'm betting any one of them will sound a lot better than using the TPA directly connected to the source. The OP is very enthusiastic about the synergy between his 6N3 and TPA3116 so that should be a pretty safe bet. The Marantz clone does look interesting as well.

Any specific reason you don't want to use a preamp with your TPA amp?

Assuming I don't want to use a preamp...it would be about gain. I didn't really imply anywhere I didn't want to use a preamp I think, but I would not want a preamp that limits volumecontrol range (too much). So I'll be trying buffer or very low gain preamps. I didn't recieve any yet, I did buy, and now am using a 10k pot with 3116, after using a 25k pot first, which I still use with some 3110 amps. 25k pots have 2 problem areas with 60k inputimpedance 3116 btw, areas where you will hear noise at full outputlevel while pot isn't opened to the max. in my setup.
The 10k pot doesn't have those areas and minimum is zero music too from 1.9V cdplayer and dac used with pc that has similar output I guess, but not sure about that.

I thank All of You Yes I do make things harder on myself,I am begining to go through alheimers first stage,my treat ment looks hopefull I can reverse it,so please do not stop helping me I really need it and appreciate it.I like playing with all the boards not just the TPA.eventualy I want to do something to replace My HK 3490 in the main room,my setup is simple in the room i call my office it is just the computer using a really nice ht omega sound card and at the momen a 7498 amp into ADSL710's And Nova 8b" paralled together @3.5ohms. I have the 3116 boards on the list as well as 2030A chipamp and 7492 d class.so I am into this pretty good .

since beginning though my battle has been power supplys. But I have found out unless you can build one you pretty much are limmited to the status quo.most likely If i sell more stuff on the bay I can get the volume pots and the preamps. But I need to slow down I am kinda mixing all the projects together and losing track.
.
So there it is guys ,but one thing,Please I need Help with this to make sure I dont make any wrong choices, after all that is the purpose Here Right.Thanx

Any time. But yeah try not to work on more than 1 or 2 projects at a time, to prevent mixing things up and ending up with a bunch of unfinished projects :)

@cleonjr, yes take it easy and slow down. Make one step at time and finish one project that's on the table right now. I didn't even care about these boards five days ago, cause i was too busy with my other gear, and modification on one phono/line preamplifier. Now as the summer knocks on the door I simply need smaller and cooler stuff, and my old t-amp seems outdated, yet great sounding. But then I suddenly found this thread another one on diy forum, and so the craziness began :D
But again, I stopped on two boards, one PSU is also on the way (from the seller I already advised to you) and another 'naked' one I'm just about to order from here http://www.aliexpress.com/store/pro...ard-Isolated-Converter/139735_1742325558.html (very kind seller must say, promptly answer to all q.)
RCA connectors already have and now I'm figuring out what kind of boxes to use, and yes - that 6n3 preamp. that sitts unused will also need a home. Too much to do in so little time, but it's also a kind of therapy. I totally understand you and your situation, illness never gives too many choices, but this hobby is certainly one of these ;)

Ok, this TPA3116 seem to be wonderful.

But compared to some commercial product like Marantz 5004 or Denon PME520 or other entry level product as Yamaha S300 or similar?

I've run the 3116 and 3110 in my second system and have directly compared it to a Nuforce DDA-100, Wadia 151 and a NAD. The 3116 sounds competitive with any of them.

This is the only "well" known commercial relative:

The basic level of the newer tpa3116 chip family is a little higher. So mostly people will compare them to some steps higher in commercial productrange. The surprise is that a $15 board with a laptop powerbrick even is being compared.

Actually when you think about it, what do you suppose the actual cost is for the amplification circuit on a 400.00 integrated amp? I have no idea but if I had to guess, I'd think it'd be somewhere between 15 - 40 dollars. Once you start adding labor, power supplies, multiple inputs, fancy cases and nobs, owners manuals, slick literature/websites, customer support, advertising and the administrative expenses involved in running a large international company, you can see that it might not be hard to start with a 20.00 part and end up with a $400.00 product. Heck, it's not hard for a DIY'er to exceed 100-200 bucks with the 3116 if you start buying new caps, a fancy aluminum chassis and linear power supply right? And in that case, the labor is completely free.

Actually if anyone knows the answer to this stuff it'd be pretty interesting to find out. I could be way off, I just don't know.

Not exactly the same but I have an integrated that uses the 50ASX2 icepower board. A quick search yields that one can buy it for $99. So may it costs the manufacturer $50?

Yeah, circuitry is only a small part of the cost. Chassis, selectors, potmeters, connectors, usually a large transformer, labor cost, marketing and last but not least profit margins for both producer and retailer, are a far bigger slice of the pie than circuitry. 20 bucks actual cost for the internal circuitry of a 500ish amplifier sounds about right. And indeed, when DIY'ing it, it's not hard to get up to a few hundred dollars already if you want to make the unit really nice and use a nice solid case and parts.
