Seems like we have had the SFG-2 vs digital scale debate a few times before. I just now used a digital scale to weigh a Susan B. Anthony dollar about 10 times and got three different readings...8.05, 8.07 and 8.08...although 8.07 did come up over half the time.
Actually, that is pretty darn accurate when you think about it. A variance of one hundreth, or two hundreths of a gram.
Where the weight is placed on the platform can fool the scale at times, I know I could with my Proscale LC-50, by weighing at the corners of the platform, versus taking the measurements dead center on the platform.
Repeatability of readings is just as important as absolute .001g accuracy.
They are way more convenient to use versus a balance beam type scale.
A machinist acquaintance liked mine so much, he bought one for himself. After throwing a slew of reference weights at mine, all the way to 50g, he was very impressed. Considering the cost of these, their accuracy, and where these things all basically come from (china), I'd say they are a real bargain.
Anyone who crazily spends $600-$800 for a Winds Stylus Force Gauge is either off their rockers, or has lots of money to burn.
I see my scale listed at something like $23.90 at Old Will Knott Scales. With shipping, figure close to $30 in CONUS. Mark
