These would have brought much more money had there been better pictures, more history, and a much better description.

I agree. Had there been a picture of the tubes that were included and they were GECs and Teles as suspected the price would have gone higher for sure. Even a picture showing the one opened box and it's contents as well as pictures clearly showing that the other boxes had not been opened would have helped. More history and a better description as you mentioned as well.

Well the Deal is done ~.

First comes the BIG BIG BIG decision.

The Citation One is a factory sealed box. He says it hasnt been opened.

What was said above is true. A proper sale and he could have got $2K Im pretty sure. SOooooo do I open and go to the next big decision or do I sit on it and flip it later?
Kind of like lets make a deal.

If I open it. I could inventory and photograph and rub and snuggle......no no no. I mean....check out the time capsule.
It could still be sold again Im sure for a margin but how much would be lost?

Im reeeaaaly leaning towards ripping it open, assembling it with all new style resistors and caps, pluggin in the Carver 180 mono's and........then I would be finished playing the upgrade preamp game forever.
I already have its space warm and ready in my Barzilay console.

But yet again, :scratch2: profit margin does overide personal material lust.

Well, Resound, firstly congratulations for stepping up to the auction. I'm glad that it went to someone who will, indeed, care for it. In addition, I do hope that you'll share your joy with the rest of us.

As the owner of a well-used Citation I and II, I can tell you that no matter your choice, you've got quite a special set of pieces there. I can remember every time I opened a Heathkit or other box with an electronic kit inside....makes me feel like a kid again just thinking about it. I do hope you'll enjoy that thrill again - someday.....

Resound, I would videotape the opening and cataloging of the parts. It might be worth also videoing the repacking, resealing, and notarizing the package, and then considering a sale to a private collector with deeper pockets than yours.

The revenue for a properly documented virgin kit would more than offset a total McShane rebuild of a gorgeous Citation I to modern boutique turnout, replete with great tubes. I would wager it would come close to fetching a I and II.

Obviously you have to open it when you get it in order to verify that what you received was what you paid for. You bought an unbuilt Citation kit. If it's full of Christmas ornaments then you file a SNAD dispute and get your cash back. Heck, I'd say you have an SNAD argument if the tubes aren't what would have been included in an unbuilt Citation kit. The seller could have protected himself from this by documenting everything but for some reason he decided to be coy (or stupid) and either lose money or open himself up to dispute.

Hopefully it's everything you wished (and paid) for and then you can decide what to do with it.

What ever you do, document everything.
Get a good digital camera and/or video camera and document everything from the time it arrives till the end of whatever fate you decide happens.
Also get shots/copies of the original eBay ad and all the correspondence you have with eBay and the seller.
No matter what you decide to do with this kit you will always get top dollar if you have evidence of everything that goes on with it.

If you do decide to build this kit be sure to keep records of the build, what circuits were modified, and what parts were substituted.
Also be sure and keep every single part, wire, etc, that came with the kit but was not used.
Also keep all of the packing materials, wrappers, bags, everything.
This stuff is history and will also allow you to get top dollar for it later if you decide to let it go.

Oh, and my vote is……… BUILD IT !!!
It is a chance of a lifetime to have a pristine unit and bragging rights from now on.
