And does it really matter? :dunno:
Well some might be so bold as to think if a mod is compensated then said goofball would feel like they could boss em around.

I will leave this with what I think a moderator here is.

An Unpaid , Overworked , Tireless member here. And its IMHO a great honor to be a moderator. We owe them our thanks.

Frannie

You all are overworked and underpaid as it is. :)

No need for me to be so harsh as I seem. Its just I do care about this place and the internet in general.

Some of that emotion bleeds through at times. My apologies

Frannie
No need for apologies, Frannie. I've known you long enough to know you're comments are all in good faith and for the benefit of all you care about. The same goes for many of the members here. So, much respect and please keep on reporting to make sure the message gets through.

As for the emotions... believe me, there's enough frustration with all these constant internet bad actor shenanigans going on to raise anyone's blood pressure.

Demanding to see their financials is as absurd as "click to continue" ads. The concerns voiced by most are not near that aggressive.

A simple "yes, the click to continue type ads are here to stay" or a "no, we didn't want that either and are working to rectify it" is all the information I would like. How much someone makes owning or working for Audiokarma is not my concern but the user experience for myself and others, that does have some meaning to me.

That was my general understanding too though some moderators, not this one, are also staff members, those I assume are financially compensated. I just wondered if the other moderators received anything 'in kind' or whatever as I'm sure it's somewhat time consuming and sometimes a hassle. the comment also seemed a bit condescending but I get that too, the internet can be less than fun sometimes.
The general staff are all volunteer: forum moderators, super-moderators and admins.

I understand Audiokarma is a for profit business and have no issues with that fact, nothing wrong with making a buck. Still as a user on issues like the 'click to continue' ads a little transparency would go a long way.
Actually, audiokarma."org" is structured/listed as a non profit entity, unlike ".com" listed internet type business`.
At least that is my understanding.

Looked into? does that mean you are all aware of them as problematic and are looking to have them removed? The user comments I've seen that have weight seem heavily leaning into this particular issue. If staff is working to get them removed, that is about all I would need to know.

I'm a subscriber, they don't affect my use of Audiokarma, but those types of ads are unacceptable on most any website to me and some likely have malware, etc which is even more problematic.

All the advertising is the responsibility of @Advally. They are also responsible for much of the server-level settings and controls, such as Cloudflare. Consequently, it is important that the message gets through to them. This has been elevated so that they are aware of it, so we all now await the response.

The load level these past months has been high, so it's likely been a juggling event for those assigned to each set of issues.

This sort of thing, to my thinking, screams malware.

I think everyone is aware that any site costs money to operate. I also know that many sites use a service who runs the access to the site, usually in return for running ads that are directed to the users of said site. Not all sites provide ads that are related to the activity of the site, ergo, more ads of stuff no one wants anyway. What I don’t know is if a website, in return for the site being hosted? h the choice of accepting ads and/or the placement of ads?
Example. A certain gardening site I used to like a whole lot more obviously is using the free website in return for putting multiple ads to all of the users. There are times when up to 5 ads are OPEN AT ONCE! This splurge on an open window sometimes has ads that are pulsing or blinking making the site effectively unusable when desiring to continue research on the site. Yes, I know it’s free so I rarely return there now, but how come AK can do a pretty good job for only $25/yr?
If you subscribe you are helping, if you don’t, then the onus is on you to tolerate what is offered…..for free. I would think that anyone who has found a solution to a problem would consider that solution worth at least half of an annual fee? And consider the recent implementation of the ‘FREE’ forum! A great opportunity to receive something you come across while perusing the site…..or the opportunity to give something you have to help out another member?
Nothing is really free anymore, there are too many freebies with caveats!

Just signed in on Chrome. Lots of ads that way. The couple with activate account stuff that I saw said "FitCrazeHub" in tiny print in the corner. Maybe it varies but that's what came up for me. No such occurences using Edge.

I will take full responsibility for this "click on" ad issue. After the stressful week of changing the server this past week, I did some catching up personal things the past few days and did not follow up immediately with Advally.

I have contacted Advally again and will let you know when the problem has been handled.

This is not true. a .org designation does not require being a non-profit. If Audiokarma were a non-profit it would have a board of directors and be required to make it's financials public. It would also mean donating to Audiokarma would be tax deductible. None of that to my knowledge (and I did some homework) is true. Audiokarma is a for profit entity. Ha, that doesn't mean it makes a ton of profit, but that is how it is structured the best I can tell.

When I see something like that on Facebook or other sites, I skip on past, since I know enough to NOT click such click-bait stuff.
Same, but that doesn't mean everyone knows that, it's the unsuspecting that get hit, not us. The fact I know that stuff might be harmful doesn't make it benign.

And following these threads some, I'd say virtually every member who has commented about things like malware isn't doing so because they will fall for it, but instead because they know others might. Part of what makes Audiokarma cool, it's a caring place generally.

Yep, we all knew that once AOL starting dumping their folks onto the internet, it wouldn't go well ...
Kinda like watching kids with eBikes and scooters blasting around in traffic with no helmets, no license, and no idea of the rules of the road.
Bad stuff is bound to happen.

We do what we can to help - but ... there is a limit.
