View ad to continue - the latest Advally bullsh*t

Clearly a lot of you guys are using browsers, ad blockers and/or platforms that aren't up to the task of effectively blocking ads.

I see absolutely zero ads on AK. It is an completely clean experience. I use a PC running W10/11, Firefox and Ublock Origin (ad blocker). On another laptop running Linux mint XFCE, same story, I see absolutely zero ads running Firefox and Ublock Origin.

Same story with sites like the NYT and WAPO where a subscriber with a decent adblocker will see not a single ad.

I used AdBlockPro for many years, but it's not in the same league as Ublock Origin. And it's completely free.
 
I use a PC with W11 running Firefox and block ads via browser settings, ie no 3rd party ad blocker. Will dig up my settings...

- Recommendations and Offers = "all off"


Firefox "Under Privacy and Security"

Enhanced Tracking Protection = Strict
- Fix Major Site Issues = tick

Additional Protections
- Tell websites not to share my data = tick

Firefox Under "Permission and Data"
- all permissions = off
- block pop-ups = tick

think that is most of it

Buried in this thread is some great information on ad blocking and web browsers, etc. As this is the 'new' normal challenge on the internet in general and at times, AK specifically, perhaps a sticky thread somewhere would be very helpful to other members.

Being that they haven't posted since March and haven't been on the site in almost a week, it appears Advally feels the same. As their member profile says they are an admin and all this is going down now, I find that a bit disconcerting.

I see no need to post on that thread again though I have paid attention to it. That thread and the silence on it from Advally since March is part actually part of why I posted this here. In fact, that thread and then looking at Advally member information is where I got the information regarding Advally's MIA quality on AK since March. Buglegirl recently posted on that thread directly asking Advally a question, let's hope they respond soon.

I do not understand these responses. No where in any of my concerns regarding Advally and it's lack of activity here along with the current negative commentary on it on reddit and trustpilot do I suggest AK owners and moderators are in any way to blame. In fact, the decision to post here regarding advally comes from a place of concern regarding AK, not criticism of it. As a small business owner, if one of my clients contacted me regarding what might be unfavorable conditions at a supplier I use, even if those concerns turned out to be false, I'd appreciate it.

I hope all that anecdotal evidence is 100% dead wrong and whatever is up with Advally is easily explained away. As I mentioned is a post earlier - this is enough data to have concerns but not enough to draw official conclusions. A simple message on that thread or on this one by Advally would certainly be a nice start.

Well I'm of the mind that Advally's plate is rather full nowadays. And on that note, you might have noticed that Ms. Grumpy has responded on that thread a couple of weeks ago, so I'm sure the issues brought up are of concern to her and Grumpy.

I did notice that, and I believe she said she had not heard back from them yet. And sure, a full plate, I get it if that's the case. Maybe the Trustpilot and Reddit comments are meaningless. I hope so.

I have been from day one of joining, that just happened overnight. Thanks for the reminder as I didnt even notice :thumbsup:

That said, I was finally getting some of the ads people are taking about and thought "that's weird, its never happened to me" lol.

And to the ads, I just refreshed the page and all was well, been doing it all day. And now that I have seen it, its really no big deal to me if I decided not to resubscribe. I have noticed I don't seem to be wound as tight as many here.
