VTA PH-16 Project.

Hi to all.
I will start a VTA PH-16 assembly. I asked for everything but the chassis. Dan, will send the parts soon, I can't wait to start.

Due the space I have available, the chassis is going to be 16.00" wide 8.00" deep and 2.00" tall, enough room for the boards because the toroidal transformer is going to be on top.
here is a mock up of how it should look at the end. The chassis will be hammered painted and the transformer enclosure wrinkle black, Two phono options (two tonearms TT) pilot light and On/Off toggle switch. Aesthetic is important and seems like came out pretty visual balanced. As soon I receive the board I could determinate the exactly final location.

Nice! It will look a lot like the Erhard Audio Aikido I bought. Tubes sticking out of the top, and transformer covered up top also.
 
Checking now and yes looks a lot alike.
Tubes are something to show, they are intrinsically beautiful. The transformer ok n top to keep it away from signal pass.
No wood in this model. I am tempted but finally I want a industrial look like a real equipment.
So far the height is not sure. I guess 2.00” will be enough, but I will decide after all components are on my hand.

I'm surprised tube shields aren't needed, at least on the first tube in the chain. Perhaps the 6922 is less susceptible to external pickup than higher-Mu tubes? I haven't used this tube in a phono stage.

Exiting project, really like your concept….have thought many times about building one myself, built a couple of the ErhardAudio Aikido PAS versions and they are great preamps, ended up passing them on because of some wheeling and dealing ;-)

I am new in all this, it is interesting and keep me busy, beside kits allow you to design and achieve what are you looking for.
Next week parts should start arriving.

my preamp uses 6922's for the phono stage. They have shields. Removing them I didn't notice any microphonics. But with the Little Bear T-11 phono preamp I gave my son it did make a difference using a shield on the first tube.
It uses 12AX7's.

Just to be clear, I wasn't referring to microphonics so much as hum and noise. This is why tubes in vintage gear have shields. It might be necessary to measure before-after S/N to confirm whether shields are needed with the 6922. I use shields routinely when high-mu tubes like the 12AX7 are mounted outside the chassis.

Hi to all.
The parts start arriving today.
After a brief check the chassis must be 3 inches tall (Sadly) but first I need to check all the options.
The transformer case is going to ve modified to keep the proper height.
Here is the toroidal case well made product IMO.

You could add a hole in base of the cover and chassis, then run the wires through it so they don't show.
I did this with a SE tube amp I built. My cover didn't have a base, and has a 1/16" space between the cover and chassis. All the wiring goes through two holes I punched in the chassis top under the cover for a nice clean look.

I did have to drill a couple holes because of those sleeves on the wires, it makes them a bit thick and stiff. It was easier to separate a few to put into a second hole. The spices inside the cover is a bit tight.

Sometimes mistakes help you in life.
In this case i ordered the next size up by mistake, but now I have 3/8” space between the toroidal and the case.
